Croatian International Ivica Mornar had his Pompey contract terminated by mutual consent, with this taking place on Friday.
Little information is coming out about this, the official website merely announcing this and not much more with the exception of his record of one goal in his twelve first team outings whilst at Fratton Park.
The 32-year-old Croatian arrived at Fratton in January 2004 from Belgian side Anderlecht, having previously played for Hajduk Split in his native Croatia before a tour of Europe starting in 1995 with a move to Eintracht Frankfurt then subsequent moves to Sevilla, Ourense, Standard Liege and finally Anderlecht before his arrival in England.
Before Harry Redknapp brought Mornar to Pompey he would be seen scoring in this country as he netted in Croatia's 3-2 friendly defeat against England, however he never really settled with Pompey and the 2004/2005 season would see him loaned out to Rennes, with whom he failed to score in fifteen appearances.
Alain Perrin's arrival appeared to give the Croat fresh hope, however Redknapp's re-arrival would be thought to see him see out his contract then move during the summer, this however wouldn't be the case, as, although I have to be honest although I'm sure it is something that I have merely missed, it has been revealed that should relegation be avoided, as it was a clause in his contract ensured him a years extension to his deal.
Having featured and in fact scored in pre-season it could have been thought that maybe there would be a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel, but all this light would prove to be, would be the exit sign getting brighter, with all parties finally deciding once and for all on Friday it would be best for everyone if the Croat had his contract terminated.
