Defoe Wanted to Join Pompey?!?!

Defoe Wanted to Join Pompey?!?!

Pompey have claimed (Peter Storrie) that we had a six million bid for Defoe rejected. Peter Storrie told the Sun newspaper;

'We put in a bid of £6m for Defoe and it was rejected,' said Storrie.

'He wanted to come and that shows we are a club moving in the right direction.'

Although this is nice to hear, a six million bid for Defoe was unlikely to be accepted! Lets face it, Emile Hesky went for about that. Pompey where obviously interested in the player but these latest claims are likely to upset Tottenham.

Is this a move by Pompey to upset the player before swooping for him in January?

The average age between them can't be a pretty sight surely? James and Cole are there for a final Premiership Pay day...

If we were really interested in Defoe we would of followed up with a bid that would tempt Spurs into selling Defoe. More Storrie Bullsit it smell. It's a bit like the Petrov saga, Celtic didn't want to sell because there was no time for them to find a replacement, More Storrie Bullsit as Petrov signed for Villa and Celtic signed Graveson from Real Madrid.

From what I gather from the Spurs websites, he was never for sale & £6m was well short of their valuation. It may have been another PS smokescreen. Sadly, as I have said on many occasions, he is the one player I think we should have broken the bank for.

I definately think he won't be for sale now. Expect Defoe to be in the starting lineup tomorrow against us. Fickle management...you bet! Unlucky fellahs. Shame nobody could pick him up whilst he was all but "unwanted" he's looked red-hot for England!

We'd never get Defoe for that money we're kidding ourselves if we thought we could. £10m would have been the lowest we should have bid if he as really wanted. How could we have offered £15m (as we are reported to have earlier in the summer and only £6m now...

Tollitt still has a Pompey chance

Well, according to Cook. He's insisting Tollitt, the former Everton academy player who had returned to Merseyside to join Tranmere on loan, can still return to Pompey.

Pompey win and lose collectively

As such Cook doesn't want the fans to start turning on individual players, which has been the case with Bennett with Smith not exactly viewed as a 'fans' favourite' either.
