No Pompey future?

No Pompey future?

No, and sorry if the title is somewhat misleading, I do not mean that Portsmouth Football Club does not have a future - lets hope it does mind!

I am referring to a player, which following comments from Guy Whittingham today you would think 'perhaps' he does not?

Josh Thompson, even though his departure has 'left us short' defensively, was allowed to join Colchester last week - sadly our league one rivals, not championship rivals as was reported in The Chichester Observer!

The comments are slightly confusing as among them Whittingham talks about him lacking experience at league one level, which granted he does, but at 21-years-old he is hardly a novice and surely must have gained something from his time with Celtic?

Other comments were that he could well have a Pompey future but Whittingham is thinking that this is likely to be some 2 or 3-years down the line!

The guy definitely needs 1st team football but at present he has just swapped our bench for Colchester's so it is not really benefiting anyone at this juncture is it...

I would not think Thompson, who tore up the final year of his Celtic contract - and fair play to him in doing so - to join us, will be wanting to hang around that long for his chance to get 1st team football will he?

He came here to play football, if we are not thinking the 'here and now' with him, which we probably have to do given our situation, I am not sure what the benefits of keeping him are...

What bit of ' ‘He can come back, it’s not like he has gone forever. He could come back in January, absolutely.'.. means he has not future ... . Admittedly the News article was confusing with quotes being inserted out of context .. but is it clear that Whitts is keeping his options open .. Have you not just taken the wrong slant on a very poorly written News article ?
