Thompson off to Colchester, Rodgers joins Shrews

Sky sports 'understands' that Josh Thompson, one of those made available for loan by Pompey, is 'set to sign' for Colchester.

It is 'thought' that Thompson does have a future at Fratton, so perhaps the guy could do with a spell away playing regular 1st team football.

The 'understanding' is that a loan deal until the New Year has been agreed, which would free up a space for a loanee to come into Fratton in his place...

So, Thompson could be on the move but one that definitely is - with this now 100% confirmed - is Luke Rodgers.

His Twitter account had said as much yesterday but we now officially know that he has now returned to Shrewsbury, where he started his career, until the New Year.

By all accounts he will be returning to America after Christmas anyway, but his time with Pompey is almost certainly over so I thank him for his efforts and wish him well for the future, although not too well as it would be typical that allowing him to go to a rival would see us eventually relegated as a result!

This does mean a space if free for a potential loan arrival, either that or we promote from within giving one of the younger members of our squad a chance...

I would say that this option, especially with rumours of 'further job cuts' possible, makes more sense really as opposed to spending more money towards the wages of another loanee, right?

I have thought the defence is the weak link for some while to be honest- even in the 5 unbeaten series (oh how soon some forget) at times the oppositions strikers saved us. I think a solid defender is a priority. All those clamouring for Rocha seem to have forgotten he has no mobility anymore and we were getting into the same place Harry got with Captain Stef. Being fair to Sugardadio his selection might not be ideal but it could well happen !

ha hopefully not as many as we will score :) just think we need a change because im not convinced with are back two! i understand what u say about rocha... but we did have the likes of kevin long and a few more games and im sure he would be v good at this level! just think we need change.
