What a difference...

What a difference...

Some 4-½-years ago we were winning the cup in 2008, and just 2-½-years ago we were finalist again - perhaps rightly so, given the chances that Chelsea had, narrowly losing to Chelsea 1-0 in 2010 in the end.

Fast-forward to Saturday November 3rd 2012 and we were starting our FA cup campaign in round one as a league one side...

In those 4-½-years a hell of a lot has happened!

The reality is that the majority of the best part of a decade that led up to this cup final win 'probably' should not have really happened - but hey ho, that was then and it has happened, and whilst quite clearly areas of the years that followed the cup final win you would like to change others I would not, but all that is another story and debate...

To me it does not really matter to me if we are coming into the cup in round 3, round 1, the first or latter qualifying rounds, the priority is that there is a Portsmouth Football Club for us to be able to even take part in the best cup competition in the world!

Unfortunately, but arguably fortunately as far as Appy is concerned given his sometimes mixed messages regarding it and how confusing as to what it actually was he expected from his team and the fans, we are now out of this following the 2-0 defeat to Notts County.

At least we 'should' have further chances to compete in this competition in the years ahead though - lets just hope we give it a little more effort when they come around!

Done Deal - Smith in permanently from Swindon

The interest Pompey retained in Smith, with him 'in our sights' has resulted in him returning to the Blues on a permanent basis after signing for an 'undisclosed fee' from Swindon.

Cushioning the blow

Much, that needed saying, about Webster's exit for Ipswich and the arrival of Clarke in return (and cash) has been said hasn't it? Doyle's been spot on with what he said.

Swindon striker in 'Pompey's sights'

Michel Smith, who was of course on loan last season, could return? He's still in 'Pompey's sights' by all accounts after Swindon informed him he's 'surplus to requirements' now.
