Kanu The Pompey Man For August

Kanu The Pompey Man For August

Kanu man of the month! Not my view yours... Asked in the latest poll who is your Pompey man of the month for August, 53% of you in fact voted this way.

Kanu has been absolutely superb since his arrival and not just because of his four goals in two and a bit games, his all round team play and partnership with Benjani have been fantastic.

Without wanting to appear too much of a "told you so" and despite myself admitting that Kanu may not have been my first choice pick I did think that he would prove a good signing, especially with a manager who has a history of getting the best out of people. I would also say this in an article I wrote on the day he signed

"We would have liked a striker who would score at least 15 goals a season and although not the most prolific, his time with West Brom, where he never really enjoyed an extended run in the team if we are fair, and his nightmare spell with Inter aside, where it was found he had a serious heart defect, he has averaged a goal nearly every other game"

"An extended run in the side and who knows what might happen for Kanu."

An extended run, albeit only two starts and one substitute appearance is seeing it so far happen for the Nigerian.

We are already beginning to think his signing could be another inspired Harry Redknapp dealing, and should his goals and performances continue then picking him up for nothing will without question prove to be a master stroke indeed.

To sum up the Polls results
53% Kanu
19% Campbell
And the remaining 28% Linvoy

Had Kanu not been around then Linvoy, a player not used to playing for Pompey this early into a season (who I have to admit I voted for us defenders stick together!) would almost certainly have scooped the award as he has been the pick of a great bunch of defenders, not forgetting Jamo in goal.

Campbell had a debut out of this world and despite continuing to play well and marshal the defence in my opinion if you didn`t know differently you would think it was Linvoy with over 50 International caps.

Currently being polled is the following which new Pompey signing are you most looking forward to seeing play?

not my choice but good on kanu although mr paul pompey negative walsh reckons it wont last, what a**** he is.... continually talking about his "well placed sources", what ******* he is
06/09/2006 19:29:00
I'd still say Linvoy but Kanu is awesome

The people that score goals always get more praise than those who save or prevent them don't they. You see the Alan Hansen/Mark Lawrenson approach from me often though as I earned my crust as a defender in my day...

As for Walshy my opinion of him has chagned somewhat recently...
06/09/2006 22:52:00
It had to be him with such a great scoring record.

LoL pompeyrug was that in the subuteo league, and as for walsh he's just a bitter old tw at who couldnt maje a profit out of us for his agency. He spends all his time talking about his well placed sources, yet some how continues to get it wrong. he's delighted when we loose and begrudged all of our last 8 victories. we should start a canmpaign to get rid of dumb blondes... compare the difference with Kamaras, or Nicholas's reviews on a game it is positive, but honest. Walsh was left embarrassed by his SSN colleagues after the wigan game, when one was heard to ask if he (walsh) was watching the same match... walsh is a bad joke.

end of dumb blonde rant, till next week

Kanu and Lua Lua, funny names but great strikers, I can see us doing some damage this year and it is all good.

Chaplin secured

Chaplin had a contract with Pompey until 2018 but ahead of the disappointing Notts County defeat he extended his contract with the Blues until 2019.

Another Fratton disappointment

That 2nd half on Saturday against Notts County was woeful - absolutely awful wasn't it. The first 15-minutes or so of it was like a pre-season friendly to pre-season!

Match highlights - Pompey 1-2 Notts County

What a disappointment that was! The 1st half wasn't bad, in fact large chunks of it were good but the 2nd half was just woeful with a soft centred Pompey beaten 2-1 by Notts County.
