Fernandes Nearing Return

Having arrived at Pompey with a groin injury that would apparently keep him out for at least two months, it is being reported by the BBC that Manuel Fernandes may be fit to make his Pompey debut by the end of the month.

The on-off move for the Portuguese International finally happened last week as the 20-year-old put pen to paper on a loan deal that should become a permanent deal for a fee between £6 and £10 million in January.

The clash with Bolton at Fratton Park on September 23rd is being pencilled in as the date for the highly talented youngster.

"Hopefully, without any setbacks, he will be involved with the first team by the end of the month," would be the words of physio Gary Sadler.

This will be a massive boost for Harry Redknapp and the Fratton faithful. I for one can't wait to see Fernandes play as he looks a fantastic footballer from what I've seen, and has been praised by some of the very best around.

Also it is hopefully that Glen Johnson, who has returned to Chelsea to have his ankle injury treated, will also be ready to return for the same match, again more good news for Redknapp and Pompey fans alike.

This could be very good news. Who does Arry drop though?
Tantona
Very good news about Johnson as well, just hope Pamarot can replicate his good form in that position until his return.
Tantona
It's great news isn't it, can't wait to see the guy. It's a tough call as who to leave out and you do worry that when players start to be left out it can cause unrest in the squad...
pompeyrug
By the way, the match is on Monday 25th September at 8pm.

What about Kranjcar?? whens he gonna play. I saw both his & Fernandes videos on youtube, & Kranjcar looked just as good!
CharlieChimes
Charliechimes He's in Russia with Croatia squad for their game tonight but If things are going ok you would expect to see Krunchy on the pitch sometime during the charlton game.
russellm
Look forward to Kranch & Ferdy giving there all for the cause. Let's give them a bit of time to settle into the country, our way of life & no doubt they will repay us all on the pitch.
storagematt
I have no doubt they'll repay us on the pitch. They could need time to adjust etc. but I have this feeling they won't need it as I can see them fitting straight in...
pompeyrug
On the face of it very good news for Harry.

Cant wait, this guy is quality, now we are building a squad and the best 11 and the second 11 are closing gaps.

Hey Russellm, thanks for that info! u are indeed a book of Pompey knowledge!!! :)

LoL charlie i try, anyway its an excuse to reasearching something i'm intrested in as opposed to reasearching the stuff im paid for :-) On this article whilst i suspect pompeyrug might be half right, i think storagmatt has the right sentiments, and those who have been talking to the croatian fans know that this is the biggest concern that they have for Krunchy @ pompey, seems he has had a rough year, we do need to give these guys time to recover fitness and settle in, although if storrie is to be believed with Fernandes its only a case of recovering fitness. I think as long as they work for the team we can be as patient as a Benjani. Further good news about Johnson. I understand that the senaglise scummer wont be playing on saturday.

or Kirkland

fernandes has been training with the team for weeks so he probably knows them already

That's good news, he's a good player and will do well when he gets a game in the side!
