Let's go back thirty years to the visit of Lincoln City in a big game at the top of Div 3. The Imps take the lead with an early penalty but an Alan Biley Hat-trick and one from Billy Rafferty earn a thumping win. The biggest memory though was of th thick fog that rolled in in the second half but the referee let the game finish as Pompey were well in front. farce really as when Lincoln attacked the Milton End the players they disappeared until eventually they were back again.

Missed the fog in 1982 but was there as the heavens opened in 2002 & the top of the table clash with our dearest Leicester turned into the battle of the solent. Farsical scenes as the ref refused to abandon the game. There for the home wins in 1993 & 1996.

Topping last seasons tally the aim

78pts was only enough for a play-off place last season so you suspect we'll have to better that for a top 3 finish this coming season, which begins with Carlisle at Fratton.

Done Deal - Smith in permanently from Swindon

The interest Pompey retained in Smith, with him 'in our sights' has resulted in him returning to the Blues on a permanent basis after signing for an 'undisclosed fee' from Swindon.

Cushioning the blow

Much, that needed saying, about Webster's exit for Ipswich and the arrival of Clarke in return (and cash) has been said hasn't it? Doyle's been spot on with what he said.
