It goes without saying that the FA cup is not a priority for Pompey, and our chances of advancing that far are limited, but we most definitely should not 'sack it off.'
Look at Bradford in the league cup, I bet few would have expected them to make the quarterfinals would they?
But they have!
Changes will be made to cup side at the weekend, mostly because the clubs loaning players to us will not want them cup-tied but it gives players coming in a chance to shine and prove that they are worthy of a run.
That said, I am surprised that the likes of Mikel Andersen and Scott Allan, who I would have thought will be long-term loans with us, are not being given permission to play - then again if we do not keep them long-term not being cup-tied could make them a stronger draw to another club should they want them...
Lets not kid ourselves we are not going to win the cup, and as expressed the chances are we will not even go that far, but the FA cup is still a magical competition that should not be tarnished by dismissing a tie out of hand.
Not too long ago Portsmouth would have been seen as a 'big draw' by a lower league club, with the financial rewards of facing us as a premier league side something people would have looked for, so I reckon we should be targeting the 3rd round, and the possibility of the draw of a premier league, as that could bring financial rewards!
These rewards could make a difference to our future too.
As I started with I know that the league is the priority but money, and we need all we can, can be made from the cup so lets just hope we do not rollover and hand the tie to Notts County on Saturday...
