'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Why the 99.9% did not come off!

At the weekend Appy was '99.9% certain' that the loan signing of a championship striker would be sewn up.

Fast-forward to yesterday, and this was not done with West Brom forward Scott Allan the one we eventually brought in for a month...

Whilst I, and many others, were happy to see Allan return, he was not quite the striker we thought he would be as he is more of a winger than an out and our striker.

It has now come to light that Chris Maguire was that 99.9% man lined up with a 1-month loan switch from Sheffield Wednesday all agreed with him to come in on Monday - that was until he damaged medial knee ligaments in training with Wednesday on Sunday morning...

Having 'badgered' Wednesday for weeks about bringing him in they finally agreed with Maguire 'desperate' for this to happen, but lady luck had other ideas!

Allan had a cracking game last night, and more of the same is welcomed but I do think that we are going to struggle without another striker playing alongside Izale McLeod.

So, hopefully in the not too distant future something can be organised for us to bring in another striker.

Problem is that will not be until a) the embargo is lifted and/or b) a current loanee returns, or is recalled to free up a space for us to do so, so in the meantime Luke Rodgers might need to be looked at again as the muscular presence alongside McLeod to ensure that the build-up in confidence that he has gained is not lost.

If McLeod continues to play as the lone man this will be the case as him playing the lone role simply is not his game...

Maguire returning would have been good, and I suspect he could have complimented McLeod nicely but it was not to be, as could only be the case with Pompey that 0.1% margin of error went against us!

Hey ho, I suspect this will be something that we revisit in January when he is back to fitness?

I think scott allan was great last night! i liked the roll he played in aswell, i just cant help but think playing williamson ertl and harley together is right? why cant we have walker on the left side? or even central? everytime he has played hes been good! want too see rodgers and harris really getting a chance up front! chris maguire is awesome but thought scott allan was brill, both would be a dream but PUP

I simply do not like Dicko. He is probably the weakest point on our team. He can't defend, can't pass and can't attack. Isn't time for Webster to come back into the side? And what about Michailik? Time for Thompson to play alongside Gyepes? sugardadio4, Ertl will be on the bench when Howard returns.

Ertl should be on a park bench when Howard returns!! Williamson is shocking too, give Walker a go on the left as Harley is a left back not a midfielder, i thought Russell was a lightweight but he is better than Ertl and Williamson
