Meanest Defence In England

OK, maybe my claim of Pompey having the "meanest defence in England" is a little extreme and maybe misleading but we are the only team in the Premiership yet to concede a goal thus far.

Pompey's three clean sheets in as many games leaves us with the best defensive record not only in the Premiership, but in the whole of England. No other club in England, and only one team in Scotland, Scottish Division Two leaders Morten, can boast the record of not conceding a goal so far this season. Granted most other clubs in England and Scotland at a lower level than the Premiership have played more games but still let's bask in the glory...

We had not kept three back to back clean sheets in almost 50 years before now, the last time we had achieved this was in 1957. Records are there to be broken so let`s keep the run going, starting with another win on Saturday against Wigan. I'll say this much if we keep another clean sheet we'll win that game as we WILL without doubt score at least once and you can take that to the bank.

As if not conceding goals wasn't good enough only Manchester United with 10 goals have scored more goals than Pompey, with us netting 7 times so far this season, all of which satisfyingly enough have come from our strikers!

All good things come to an end and as sure as the day is long as much as we would all hope not to see it happen Pompey will eventually concede a goal, and yes, sad as it is sooner or later (but hopefully later!) lose a game but for the time being we can take comfort in the fact that Title contenders Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United have all conceded more gaols than we have, with only United scoring more!

wont last forever but it should go at least another weekend. im predicting (LoL nearly put 2-1 :-) another victory 2-0, but DeZeuw will make it tough for us if he plays.

There will be no silver lining this season I cant see that we will be top 4 but i can see top ten and with another season under our belts who knows.

It's no claim, it's a fact!!! I'm not saying it will remain that way, as I said at the end of the article all good things come to an end but we may as well enjoy it...

We wil definately concede 20+ goals that's a cert. But if we can score at the other end it won't matter!

Tony Adams and Sol Campbell. Two reasons why the defence is looking so tight, It's not just coincidence that those two played such a major role in Arsenal's mean defence. Ok the roles have changed slightly but i think it's rubbing off on the others.

LoL actually the defence are not that mean, i met Captain Dejan some months ago at Port Solent and he was the first one to offer at the bar.... and a very nice pint or three it was too :-)

If Wigan put 3 past us I'll never write an article of this type again!!! I was tempted to say I'd never write an article again full stop but if the HIGHLY unlikely happend as I'm a man of my word I would stick to it which would mean I wouldn't be able to write about the club I love on a site that is fantastic ever again... Yeah I know some of you are probably thinking not having me write any articles again might not be a bad thing :) lol

Its no fluke! Griffin, O'Brien, etc weren't up to scrathc last season at all. We needed someone like Campbell to marshall our defence properly. I think we can keep a clean sheet against Wigan.

I agree with Rabbi, and see no reason why we shouldn't speculate that we could do the same against Charlton in the game after that! At the end of the day though, I don't care if we do concede as long as the results are good.

If we carry on playing well, letting in goals or not we'll continue picking up point and contiune proving doubters wrong...

Our defence is a rock, Campbell is awesome but Linvoy has been the defender of the month for me. We will keep it up for another week or so.
