from the previous month (still with me?)" />
It`s that time, of the next month, when we vote for the "player of the month" from the previous month (still with me?) In English, who has performed to the highest standard in the last three games?
We will do this every month for the entire season, with you, the readers, getting to vote on your player of the month. The three players up for nomination (in no particular order) are;
Kanu
Kanu signed on a free transfer after no other Premiership clubs where interested, after a poor West Brom career. Kanu has shown that he can compete in the air but with the ball at his feet is where he has proved he is a quality footballer.
Kanu started the month by scoring two goals against Blackburn with a golden opportunity to score three, but missed a penalty. Man City was difficult with Pompey not creating much but still asked questions of Man City`s back four. Middlesborough saw Kanu show the watching public that he still has amazing talent and superb execution.
Sol Campbell
Arguable Portsmouth`s biggest transfer coup of the summer. Sol Campbell came with an awesome reputation and an impressive CV. People questioned whether Sol was in the right frame of mind after a very public disappearing act last year. He joined on a free transfer and played in a friendly behind closed doors, this would be his only pre-season preparation.
Campbell started the premier league campaign with a competitive debut against Blackburn. He was exquisite, solid in the air and turned 50/50`s into 99/1`s. You could see that he combined with Linvoy well and communicated with the back four. The next match saw him face Man City, where he and the other defenders kept a clean sheet. Sol managed to keep City`s front two quiet. Middlesborough where the next to see Pompey`s sensational signing and they would have left jealous. Middlesborough have one of the top strike forces in the league and Sol prevented Yakubu from really threatening James`s goal.
Linvoy Primus
Unusually for Linvoy he has started the season in the starting line up. Linvoy has been a loyal servant to the club and has become a fans favourite. He is big and strong and showed his pace against the best of opponents. If Pompey had, had cover at left back then Linvoy would not be on this list right now.
Linvoy started the season against Blackburn where he was different class. From the start he let nothing past him, being both solid in the air and on the deck, winning the ball in most 50/50 challenges. Linvoy was not only reliable but steady. Against Man City he had another solid performance, being able to keep City`s front men at bay. Middlesborough match was clear to see that Linvoy and Sol where a unit. Linvoy was able to prevent Borough causing Pompey a threat and cleared any loose balls in and around the area.
So who will you award the man of the month award to?
