Back-to-back wins for Pompey has become almost unheard of in recent times!
Merely a win is almost surprisingly these days...
Pompey managed to secure both though on Tuesday night as the 2-1 win Yeovil brought us another win and made it back-to-back wins - this win also bringing us our second win on the road this season, another thing ('regular' away wins) that is almost unheard of!
Lets not forget another 3pts also takes us into positive points for the season, as we still have 10pts to be taken off...
I cannot offer up much of a view as I was not there, but this is what Appy had to say: 'we made life a bit difficult for ourselves. We were very good in the first half and the work-rate of our front players was phenomenal.
'We had numerous opportunities in the first 45 minutes, but weren't clinical enough to finish the game off.'
From what I am told from friends that went, and based on the 'text coverage' I had from The News, we really should have been 'out of sight' by half time, although we were not!
A failure to be 'clinical' enough can always leave you vulnerable to an equaliser, and you shot yourself in the foot when you 'lack discipline' and give away a needless penalty, which we did to let Yeovil back into the game.
With us always an attacking threat, very much so in Appy's eyes, he was 'backing us' to score again and fortunately we did through an unlikely, yet still regular, source: 'we lost a little bit of discipline and when you go to ground there's always a chance that you'll concede a penalty.
'But, to be fair to the players, we came back into it and created more chances.
'I'll always back us to score with the threat we have going forward. I didn't expect Gabor to be celebrating scoring the winner - but we'll definitely take it.
'He tells me he used to be a centre-forward when he was 18 and scored 18 goals in 20 games, but I'm not convinced about that!'
Izale McLeod has come in for some stick at times, and rightly so I feel - I highlighted some areas of his game in my match preview - but he opened the scoring. It was his work rate, not always something associated with his game, that also gained praise.
In fact the pairing with new loan arrival Wes Thomas was also again praised: 'I thought they worked well together and, as I mentioned on Saturday, I think we're starting to see the best of Izale.
'I don't think many people can doubt his finishing after his exploits last season for a Barnet side that struggled.
'They seem to be striking up a good partnership together and hopefully they can get the goals to back up their performances.'
I cannot really offer anymore of a personal viewpoint on the game, like I say I was not there and could not really follow it either, but I think the 1300 - or so - Pompey fans that made the trek, making up almost a third of the overall attendance, deserve credit once more.
Surely back-to-back wins cannot become a treble when we head to Milton Keynes at the weekend to take on MK Dons, can it?
Give me a point now and I would happily take it but confidence must surely be growing and we can go into the game against one of the best, if not the best, footballing sides in this division with 'hope', which is perhaps not something many of us would have had going into the weekend just been...
