The votes had been cast; these numbers toted up with it decided among the Vital Pompey fraternity that Gabor Gyepes was the man of the match against Scunthorpe.
Once again it was hardly a game for 'the purist', but lets face it we are where we are these days and expectancy on what the actually 'quality' will be should not really be that high these days - although maximum effort, endeavour, commitment and passion is something that I think we should be able to expect, right...
How much this ankle problem is holding Gyepes back, I am not sure but in him and Lubomir Michalik we have a decent central defensive pairing and I do think that the Hungarian played a big part in our win, doing what he had to at the back whilst of course chipping in with a goal!
Izale McLeod take note; that is how you finish, not with the air-kick you offered up before Gyepes spanked it home!
Our defenders, collectively, are still showing far too many players inside, you are taught as a kid to always send them outside - 'lacking quality' or not, this fundamental basic needs to start being followed...
Yep, all-in-all, I think Gyepes deserved this whilst I think Darel Russell deserves a mention as I thought he had his best game so far, although we MUST start to actually have 'a midfield!' This is virtually non-existent with this so far back that no-one is able to pick up the second ball in an attacking sense and defensively we keep inviting wave after wave upon us too easily.
