Striker out, one missed, two alternatives

Striker out, one missed, two alternatives

The recruitment of a striker, at least one, has been pretty high on the list of priorities for Appy for a number of weeks now.

With it confirmed that Luke Rodgers is facing 'up to three-weeks' out now, with an MRI revealing he 'has a tear in his left thigh' that will see him miss half a dozen games in that period.

One striker, an unnamed striker from an unnamed premier league side, had been lined up.

By all accounts his club, with him left out of their 25-man squad, were prepared to let him make the move and the player was willing to join us to but wanted to sign until the January - as we can only do 'month-to-month' deals that scuppered that one...

Luke Dowling has today told The News that the club still want to get in a striker, ideally two - if affordable, with it hoped one will arrive in time for the weekend.

Little has been given away but it was revealed that they both play in league one, with one having championship experience. Dowling also said one played in the league cup on Tuesday.

Well, Crawley, MK Dons, Preston and Swindon from league one all played in the league cup on Tuesday - I will take a stab at Charlie MacDonald of MK Dons and Paul Benson of Swindon possibly being the ones we are looking at?

I am pretty sure that MacDonald has played in the championship and go with Benson as Appy did, ahead of the Swindon game recently, mention him by name as another player Swindon had in their squad to make an impact, but he has not been playing that much this season I do not think.

These are just 'hunches' that I have mind and I am not claiming to be 'in the know' or having 'inside information' or anything, just a feeling I have with Benson the one that I think could be the main one Appy is looking to bring in.

Apparently one rumour doing the rounds has been a return to Pompey for Marko Futacs from Leicester, with it said he was at our game at the weekend?

Not so sure on that one to be honest, Benson and possibly MacDonald (most likely Benson) is where I would be putting a little wager on as to the ones we wanted if I were a betting man methinks...

Vital Boxing - Bellew Wants Lebedev Next

Don't care which, happy with Futacs even - just please make it someone who can trap a ball and pass to his own team mates - that's all!

I think too much is being made of 'championship experience' after all, MacLeod has 'championship experience' but is amazingly poor. So we are going to be relying on a league one striker who can't even get near a starting place in league one. When will it end.
