Appy Says! Swindon reaction

Pompey suffered another defeat on Tuesday night when Swindon were the latest side to come to Fratton and go away with the points, with them again another side that we needed to see take a two-goal lead before we finally, properly, woke up!

In all honesty, whilst we battled really well for the final 10-15-minutes and 'might' have somehow forced a draw, I do think that Swindon deserved to win.

Appy thought otherwise though: 'it was frustrating. I'm not sure how we came away with nothing from the match - we contributed to what was a really good game of football.

'There was a lot of energy and good chances at both ends. I thought we were well worth a point.'

We had a hatful of chances at the end, we saw the keeper make a couple of good saves, an effort off the line and the post deny us, although at the same time Swindon could have easily gone in four or five-nil up at the break if we are honest!

That 'first goal' continues to haunt us.

You often feel that if we could somehow manage that we could go on and win, unfortunately we did not really threaten this too much in the 1st half with a poor goal conceded late on and then a 'sloppy' start to the 2nd half seeing us soon slip further behind and again chasing a game...

When that second goal went in Appy feared 'a long night for us' but as pleased as he was with the response in the latter stages and the part the fans played, we 'fell short' again: 'at that point you thought it would be a long night for us, but we responded really well and in the last 15 minutes there was only one team that was going to score.

'The Fratton End do their best to suck the ball into the net and they were fantastic again, but ultimately we fell a bit short.'

Chances we get we have to take, and we definitely have to pass it better, which we did in the end, but from around the 45th-75th minutes it was pretty much as low as I think I have felt in a long time as we were poor in most areas and looked totally void of idea. Swindon totally dominated and anytime we did have the ball we either carelessly lost it, usually in dangerous areas, or just gave it away with poor passing.

We finished the game strongly though and I am really happy that I decided not to take the easy way out and leave early (which I had contemplated) as I would have missed the most exciting period of the game!

Defensively we looked better, still rocky at times, but better so 'if' we can keep a settled back four it would help, especially centrally and Appy also knows this: 'I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that they're still a pairing in five or six games time. It would be nice to have that many games with the same centre-back pairing.

'They're going to take time to gel - they've only trained together for a few days. They'll get up to match pace in five or six games.

'They're both solid enough and will win plenty of headers. People might say they lack a bit of mobility, but I think they've got enough experience to deal with that.'

Oldham was woeful, Walsall an improvement but Swindon was again a bit of a step forward. Yep it was, all-in-all, not great but I thought we had long since accepted that it was 'not going to be great' this season, right?

Swindon were that yard quicker, their passing crisper and sharper and they deserved their win - some of their football was top class to be fair - but if we can somehow start to remember to start games as we finished that one we will soon start to collect some points.

If we can come away with one against Notts County this weekend it would represent a good one, all three would be awesome but in all reality and honesty - and I am not being negative, just realistic based on their form and league positioning - if we come away with nothing again it probably would not be too much of a surprise...

I thought we were mediocre quite frankly I spent most of my time bawling at all of em - yes it was me - either Appy knows something we dont about the future 10 point deduction or we are now back in deep doggie doodies from a reasonably positive position. We have a great chance handed to us by the fixture list to start from say -2 now we don't. 15mins is all well and good the only issue with that I'd typically a game is 94

Not that I'm incensed at driving down from the canary wharf for that rubbish - or the speed camera incident - or the fact I was calling town wallsal for the next 6 hours - nor did get a beer at anytime. Ownership has nothing to do with players failing to commit on the pitch or behave proffesionally their money is guaranteed; many of us will not be that lucky

Davies to Tranmere as Blues close in on Thompson?

With Burgess, Clarke and Whatmough ahead of him Davies' chances at Pompey are limited, especially if Swindon's Thompson completes move to Fratton Park - Davies could join Tranmere?
