The loans of Conor Clifford and Kevin Long are up for renewal, with both 'believed' to be battling it out to determine who would stay at Fratton?
With Long going off injured at the weekend 'reports' were saying that this injury would make it likely he would return to Burnley, not that Clifford's future was any clearer mind...
According to The News though Clifford was informed this morning that his loan would not be extended, so he returns to Chelsea having been unable to force his way into the starting 11.
The midfielder does return to Chelsea though having managed a goal, which came as a sub against Carlisle back along.
If the guy is not going to break into Appy's side, and to be fair we seem to be pretty well stocked for players that can player in a central midfield role - well any midfield role really, it makes sense to return him and look to loan in someone that can offer a little more?
Nevertheless I thank him for his efforts, and wish him well for the future.
'Rumour has it' that a striker is being lined up in a loan capacity so they will fill the loan void left by the 20-year-old?
Long may also exit Fratton, and return to his parent club Burnley, but The News reports that Appt has 'opted to wait on the fitness of Kevin Long before clarifying his Pompey future.'
I quite like Long, although must admit he has not quite replicated his very early form for Pompey, but has still proven a decent loan signing and one I would like us to keep, although if he is not going to be fit for a while it would be pointless retaining his loan services at this time...
