'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Johnny Ertl arrives!

Former Palace and Sheffield United defender Johnny Ertl has been officially confirmed as a Pompey player.

The free agent, having left Sheffield United in the summer, has signed a contract for an initial one-month.

Appy, as he told The Pompey Site, said: 'Johnny's got experience of playing in England and is versatile - he can play in midfield or as a centre-half. That makes it an attractive signing to me.

'He's a solid performer and has got a big presence. He'll bring a lot of professionalism into the dressing room.'

It has been highlighted previously, as it was again here by Appy, that 'versatility' is a key ingredient that he is looking for in his players at the moment with a number of the signings he has made able to play in more than one position.

We needed a solid centre back, and now we have him. Excellent signing.

Having seen bits of the Carlisle game he will fill a gap; good signing i reckon. Cant have his name on my shirt I don't have the Velcro letters left over to make Ertl - how many scrabble points is Ertl worth?
