The votes had been cast; these numbers toted up with it decided among the Vital Pompey fraternity that Kevin Long was the man of the match against Bournemouth.
It was a cracking game, an end-to-end game at some stages of it, that is exactly what you pay your money for - a win would have made it a perfect day for Pompey but with 11 players making their debut from the off, and another couple off the bench, how impressive was it!
More impressive was the fact that the players, in many instances, had not even met before but gelled fantastic well, including Long and his central defensive partner Paul Connolly, with both signed the morning of the game!
It is hard to single out one player but I agree with the outcome of the poll that Long was the man of the match - on that evidence, early days I know, it is easy to understand why both Everton and Celtic were 'understood' to have shown an interest when he joined Burnley from Cork back in 2010 as a teenager.
He was solid at the back, as was Connolly, but what most impressed me was his calmness and assured nature with his ability on the ball awesome for a defender. It was like his foot was a 'pitching wedge' at times with his cross field balls, or searching balls (but searching with intent) landing almost inch perfect every time.
Yep, a cracking all-round effort - on and off the pitch - but Long just edged the MOTM voting at the weekend for me, and evidently you too...
