'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Just give Wolves the money...simples!

So, Luke Varney agreed a compromise deal with Pompey to complete his transfer to Leeds.

The next Pompey man to follow him to that club, according to what 'sky sports understand', will be Chuck, who has 'snubbed' Sheffield Wednesday in favour of joining a number of former teammates at Elland Road?

He will apparently join them on a free...Of course a fee would be good but getting his wages from the bill is essential at this point!

Another 'set for talks' elsewhere is Greg Halford, with Forest wanting to take him to the City Ground.

The Telegraph reports that his 'deal will be complicated by Portsmouth owing his previous club Wolves 200,000,' although is it really that complicated?

Yep, we need to offload him but even given our position Halford must be worth something (surely if Varney was he is!), at least 200,000 surely, so they simply pay the transfer fee to Wolves instead of us!

Afterall that is what happened with Varney by all accounts, even Trevor Birch admitted that the transfer fee we got from Leeds for him went to Derby as we owed them.

Just do the same with Halford and it is job done...

Leeds fan here. It seems strange that a club looking for promotion are gathering players from a relegated team but thats football. One thing I hope is that someone comes in and gives you a lifeline as it would be a sad day for football if Portsmouth went under. We suffered near lighidation and then years of toil under Bates and I think you deserve a break after what you have been through. Good Luck for the coming season

Thanks for those thoughts Erni... I'm afraid I'm old enough to remember your great team in the 60's under Revie, and what a team that was. I don't need to name all those players here because I'm sure you know them anyway but I watched those guys play on several occasions against London teams because I was living there at the time. The Leeds experience just goes to show though what can happen to teams, even those that ruled the game at one time....
