No room for seniors!

There is NO room for any senior player contracted to the club (if Kanu still falls into that bracket is equally unclear as the suggestion is he has left the club, but will be suing PFC!) on Pompey's tour to Spain...

Quite who has made the decision to this is unclear?

Is it Appy or administrator Trevor Birch in an attempt to make it clear to these players that they have no part to play in our future...

Trialists, according to The News, that have flown out include three from recently, Jon Harley, Moustapha Dumbuya and Simon Eastwood, along with Izale McLeod, Brian Howard, Simon Gillett and Lloyd Sam. An 'unnamed experienced' keeper is also playing a part.

Pompeytim posted this comment about the situation in the forum (initially on this thread here) today...

According to the Snooze, all of the senior Pompey players have been left in England, rather than coming to Spain / Gibraltar with the "first team".

A bold move by Appy / Birch (not sure who) to try & force the players to find new clubs.

I can't see that particularly bothering TBH or Kitson. Those leeches will be there no matter what they are made to do.

But it is a power message.

They are not part of the first team. Instead, Appy is going to start building a first team, based on kids & waifs & strays. It makes sense. Even if they are to stay, the team dynamic could be troubled by these guys moping about, so best to keep them out of it.

A bold, but I think, wise move.

I tend to agree with Tim really, it is a bold move but the right one - the drawback is that we pay these players, well we will do, and they will get this regardless of spending 10-days in Spain with PFC or not...

On the other hand why take them just to have to potentially pay for them to be flown back to England, or wherever - at the costs of PFC I am sure - to complete a move away. Also why take them, and get them match fit, for someone else if they are not going to be part of our plans.

You will, as Tim also points out, almost certainly get a few that would be happy to have a 10-day paid break and will then return to the club and pick up where they left off, happy to collect their salary for another season, regardless.

What do you make of this move?

It's exactly the right thing to do. The message is clear. Tough times call for tough actions. I'm right behind Appy on this....

Right move by Appy, if there not going to be playing why bother having them in pre-season matches. Also as we have got rid of Mullins and Mokoena can we not now sign a couple of players?? Or are the football league waiting until the wage bill is a an acceptable level?

Good move and I agree with above. No point in playing players who are likely to be shipped out in next week or two and should they be here when the season kicks off then we can still use them then. appy knows what the seniors are (or aren't) capabale of so he will not get anything in seeing Kitson running around like a headless chicken knocking ball onto no one. Going to get more knowledge about the youngsters which is far more important as this is our future.

Fine by me this move- although I'm still convinced the FL want to kill the club off anyway

I heard it was a Bryjan coach that the scum have now rejected due to their lofty perch (it won't last)

Have to back Appy on this one. I agree the FL would he happier if we ceased to exist, they are trying their best to get their way.
