New and old faces as pre-season begins

That time of year us upon us again, pre-season training has begun with Pompey and it is when this kicks-off that you know the season is getting closer.

Although it is when the actual friendlies begin that its closer still, and our first one is against Havant this weekend...

Who will actually feature in that game remains to be seen, but you would 'guess' that unless they are sold in the meantime those that did take part today would play some part at Westleigh Park on Saturday?

A new face that could well do this is Jon Harley.

Some may remember him from Chelsea fame some years back. Since then he has played for, among others, the likes of Fulham and Sheffield United but is currently a free agent having left Notts County this summer.

I remember him as a decent fullback, but that was a good few years ago!

But hey ho, beggars cannot be choosers can they and if he proves himself to Appy during this 'trial' and wants to play for Pompey, and we are actually given permission to sign him, then that would do me.

The fact that Tal Ben-Haim was in attendance tends to suggest that his departure this summer is still someway off happening - then again 'rumours' are saying that Luke Varney and Chuck are closing in on moves away and they were training, so we can keep our fingers crossed...

Not in attendance, as always, was Kanu!

He is a serial non-attendee of pre-season training. I hope, assuming he was not given permission to miss out, he will be not be paid! Hopefully this absence means that his departure is close?

With the same applying to Aaron Mokoena, who was also missing.

Both were 'expected' to be in attendance by all accounts...

In all there were some 20 players, I would be guessing mainly younger members from the development squad but nevertheless a decent number, its just a shame we do not have a keeper!

PLAY UP POMPEY!

Just seen on The News that also at training today was former Doncaster Rovers full-back Mustapha Dumbaya and two goalkeepers, an ex-England under-18 shot-stopper Simon Eastwood who was recently at Halifax Town and Laurie Walker who played for Kettering Town.

Now we are not 'friends' with Kanu, can't the club fine him heavily for every day he misses training. Oh, and back date it for every other training day he's missed over the years and I reckon he'll end up owing us money!
