'If It's Football, It's Vital'

No arrivals allowed. No surprises?

The 'Pompey plea' to the football league for us to be able to bring in new recruits has been turned down.

This comes as a somewhat ironic twist on the day that PFC announced the arrival of a new head of recruitment...

Until more of the higher earners move on the football league will retain this stance preventing us from bringing in players, be that on free transfer or not or even on loan.

Lets face it, as limited as we are with numbers, this decision is not at all surprising is it and in many ways is the right one as we have a wage bill that is unsustainable and desperately in need of more players to move on so how could we be allowed more players to be brought in to add to this even if they would be on much, much less wages or not...

Yet at the same time we are in need of players to come in and allow us to be competitive - as if we did not already know this something needs to give, and quick!

This just further heightens the need for these big earners, we know who they are, to bugger off and whilst I think we should not expect them all to go I still think that a few more will start to move on in the next few weeks - lets just hope that it is the ones that we most desperately need to move on that will...

Who/What is the head of recruitment going to recruit?

what a surprise the FL and FA haven't exactly fallen over them selfs to help us in the past so aren't likely to now! can only see other clubs wanting at most 5 of our players, cant see anyone wanting Kitson, Ben Haim or Kanu so i think we are stuck with them and most likely end up going out of business

Well no surprise there, I think the FL have a duty to all teams to ensure that the league remains competitive. I'm not sure they are doing this.

No surprises, it's simple Pompey have to lose the wage bill. Re the non outgoing players, just play it tough with Mok; let him decide if he wants his dream move. As for TBH make him train hard and play, each time he doesn't or refuse Pompey should deduct them the maximum permissible salaries. As for Kanu, he's not going anywhere so it's the same although it seems rough.

I'll try again; It's a shame that we have to keep on stating the bl@@din' obvious, 'We Need To Get Rid Of The High Earners etc'. I wonder just how pro-active the club is being. On the face of it, Pompey (Birch etc) should be on the phone all day pestering people like that old woman Warnock and everybody else in the Chumpionship. We should be emailing lists of players all round the world (the farther the better for some of them) We should be doing deals, offering to chip in with the wages, giving them away, offering to put their children through Public School, anything to help shift them. Why are contracts in football more 'legal' than elsewhere? Do we not have a 'bit of black' on any of the other clubs/managers/directors? Someone must know something we can use as a lever to 'persuade' them to take our surplus players. As a last resort, I know this really nasty piece of work who . . . . . maybe not.
