Midweek at Home Park

From a purely selfish viewpoint the league cup draw against Plymouth was an excellent one for Pompey!

Unfortunately, again when being selfish, this will not be played on a weekend as a Tuesday night date has been confirmed.

It was hoped, well at least I had hoped, that an arrangement could be reached for this game to be played at Home Park over the weekend of 11th or 12th August but this will not be the case as The Pompey Site has confirmed...

Midweek Date At Plymouth Set

Pompey's Capital One Cup first round tie at Plymouth will be played on Tuesday, August 14, kick-off 7.45pm.

The possibility of playing the game the weekend before has been ruled out following consultation between the clubs.

Tickets are £10 and £5 for the Home Park clash in the newly-named competition, effectively the League Cup.

The £5 concession tickets are for those aged 65 and over, 21 and under, full-time students, registered disabled and serving members of the armed forces.

Details of when tickets go on sale will be announced closer to the game.

By all accounts Pompey wanted this on the weekend by Argyle rejected the proposal.

It is said that they think they have a better chance of winning midweek. Another theory, and a more likely realistic one, is that playing on the Tuesday better fits into their 2012/13 season preparations...

A weekend game would have almost certainly seen a larger crowd in attendance but hey ho the decision has been made so what can you do.

Really disappointed. I was looking forward to this, nice little trip I thought - but I can't make it midweek. I read that Plymouth were up for changing it to a weekend - so it seems Pompey have stuck 2 fingers up at the fans! Thanks guys.

OK, I take that back, I've just read it was Pompey who asked for the fixture on the Saturday and Plymouth who said no. Miserable ****'s. Still disappointed not to go though.

Saturday's without football just doesn't seem right - this would have helped and given the match a bit more gravitas; League Cup 1st round needs all the help it can get!
