Stockford and Tallack among those released

A few former academy graduates from recent years, who last summer signed 1-year professional contract, have been released...

Whilst we are hardly in a position to be handing out new contracts anyway Appy has decided that Lewis Stockford and Lewis Tallack are not part of his future plans.

Both looked like they 'might' have had some part to play last season, with Stockford the more likely, but once Appy took over he seemed to make it pretty clear that the home-grown pair we 'further behind other youngsters' and they both spent plenty of time away from Fratton on loan.

Another 1st year pro to be released is Carl Walshe.

The Irish striker came to the club with such promise but never managed to fulfil this and also spent some time away from the club on loan with Frome, and from what I recall this did not really work out and he came back ahead of schedule?

A couple of academy players, Matt Gledhill and James Jennings, have also been released at the end of their time with the club with professional contracts not offered.

It is always sad to hear that, but it happens and if they are not going to make the grade needs must, especially with us having to be almost 100% certain we are not carrying passengers any longer...

I with them all well for the future though.

I am surprised, I thought youth was the future; I guess Appy and Andy Awford are best placed to know.

indeed youth is the future, but like you say we have to trust these two on the outcome of these guys...
tbf from a pretty early stage appy did say that both lewis' were 'a bit behind' the likes of magri, webster and harris - and these three have been in, and around, the 1st team havent they.
