Pompey arrange Wimbledon friendly

Pompey arrange Wimbledon friendly

I do not want to be too 'presumptuous' (a big word I know!) but further thoughts that Pompey really will 'live on' beyond this summer has come today with yet another pre-season friendly announced!

Hot off the heels of confirmation of trips to Havant & Waterlooville, and then a 10-day stop in Spain, a friendly at AFC Wimbledon just before the new season kicks-off has been revealed today.

It does not get much more 'real football' than that, does it and I know that I will most definitely (all being well) be wanting some of that!

The Pompey Site issued the following statement earlier today...

Pompey To Face AFC Wimbledon
Pompey will take on AFC Wimbledon in a pre-season friendly at the Cherry Red Records Stadium on Wednesday, August 8 (7.45pm kick-off).

It will be the first time the Blues have faced the Dons, who were formed in 2002 following the decision to relocate Wimbledon FC to Milton Keynes.

The club started life in the Combined Counties League - the ninth tier of English football - but five promotions in nine seasons saw them rise to The Football League last summer.

Terry Brown's side currently sit 17th in the League Two table with one game of the season remaining.

Pompey have already lined up a friendly at Havant & Waterlooville on Saturday, July 14 (3pm kick-off).

The Blues will then fly out to Spain for a pre-season tour on July 16, crossing the border to face the Gibraltar national side on Friday, July 20 (8pm kick-off).

Wonder if we will have eleven players by then or just the kids? Nice to make new friends though.

Movement of the people

There will be no exodus but as Bob Marley said there would be movement of the people, actually 'movement of Jah people', at Fratton in order for Jackett to bring players to Pompey.

So long Smithy?

Having made it clear the arrival from Ipswich of (now captain) Pitman meant a forward could leave Fratton Park, Smith is seen as the odd one out in four for Pompey boss Jackett.
