'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Well played Ashley Harris

With so much rubbish in recent times, making it hard to write much in all honesty, it makes a change to be able to view something optimistically and as such I feel I must just give a mention to young Ashley Harris following his weekend showing as a 2nd half sub at Donny

What a difference he made, and I would without a shadow of a doubt start him on Tuesday against Palace.

Ashley is what, 17-years-old (if that), but he was hungry, energetic and up for it.

He would be out on the wing one moment, up top, in midfield or even defending the next and looked the part I must say.

He made good runs on, and off, the ball and was always showing for it. Sometimes he would take a few touches and look around for something, others he would lay it off instantly but he was comfortable regardless and did a good job.

The kid looks like he has a really good footballing brain and, from this latest glimpse seen of him, looks like he would have a decent season with Pompey next time round.

Lets not put too much pressure on him though, and I do not want to 'big him up' too much - perhaps it is too late and I have already done that! - but like I say I really hope that Appy shows faith in him and boosts his confidence even more by starting him against Palace?

If I am honest though I am not convinced that he will, but I would applaud Appy again if he did take this chance and gave Ashley his. At the end of the day will he do any less than Luke Varney, who almost certainly will not be here next season anyway, and often looks - in mind at least - as if he is not here now...

Well we may need young Mr Harris & many like him next season. As for Varney, can't say I have been impressed in recent weeks.

I agree, Reg has been a wast of space and he was such a good player. We are not going to stay in the Championship (bar three carefully selected 'Munichs') so why not play Harris and that other tall one, who warms up in front of us each match?

sorry, 'waste', that is.

If only we could have 11 on the field with the spirit of Ward, Harris and Pearce.
