Super Sol Super Start (9) MOM

Sol Campbell has been given man of the match by Vital Pompey and I believe few would disagreeā€¦

This is a guy with hardly any pre-season, one game warm up and he was different class. How good is a fit Sol Campbell going to be? Sol is bound to become a fans favourite as he tightens up Pompey`s back four.

He started off a bit slowly but soon grew accustom to the players surrounding him. Not only did he win everything in the air but he didn`t give Benni Mcarthy oxygen let alone space.

One of his biggest contributions was his communication! He bellowed instructions at his fellow players. He made us look a threat from set pieces and he dealt with set pieces at our end well.

Next Match- Has to start, give him the captain`s armband.

would be a ***** up for me between sol and benjani. Benjani gave them problems all afternoon and seems to be improving with every game he plays.

Looked like his match fitness will improve with further matches, but he led the line magnificently - pushing them forward and ensuring that we didn't try to defend too deep (which has been a definite problem in the past few seasons). Made some masterful challenges and never really looked like losing a header. Also got forward well when set pieces allowed it (very unlucky with one header right at Friedel). His quality is blatantly there for all to see.

Merson had a great impact on the club, Teddy arguably even better. I said I had hoped Sol could have an even greater impact still, so being only half fit (maybe less) and playing that well hopefully there will be even more to come...

He was not the Sol player out there giving his all but he certainly put his heart and Sol into it.

Had an excellent games defensively but also a great threat with corners and free kicks. Yes, he also seemed to marshall his defence well - a great leader !

On this day in history...30th May

A look back at this day in history, and what was happening with Pompey courtesy of our sister site PompeyRama, 30th May.

No Crawley return for Tubbs

Tubbs doesn't have a future at Pompey, he's on the transfer-list but offloading him could be difficult given his wages. These wouldn't be anywhere within Crawley's reach.

Pitfalls of Sheffield Wednesday loanee returning

As Catlin put it 'the gamble' of aiming sign Sheffield Wednesday loanee Lavery has to be one Pompey fans understand. It isn't as cut and dried as saying 'he's a free agent' sign him!

Lassie coming home...well sort of!

A-box-to-box player, capable of defensive duties, with ability to burst forward with intent to make things happen - Diarra is Pompey's man and wants an England return. I jest of course!
