'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Maybe somewhat harsh!

Sometimes, when emotions run high and in the heat of the moment you can say things?

Well a couple of weeks ago I was very critical of Tal Ben-Haim - perhaps somewhat unjustly...

I maintain my thoughts, as I would imagine we all do, that TBH is way overpaid - his salary, in spite of his previous standing in the game, is way above what it realistically should be - and the contract that he was given for this was incredibly stupid as we were very much up to our necks in the brown stuff when it was dished out!

When all is said and done - mercenary or not who maybe 'could' have moved on getting paid less money elsewhere - he was given a contract so that is not his fault, maybe he is at fault for not accepting less to play elsewhere, but he has that contract, which is binding...

I still have little doubt that his 'commitment' to Portsmouth football club is based on little else but money although, all in all, do not think that I can doubt his commitment in terms of what he has produced on the pitch, based on all games so far this season as a whole, has been as good as anyone really, right?

Perhaps the views that my thoughts were based 'on the money that he is paid' were right, and for that I owe him an apology.

I certainly owe TBH an apology for putting him in the same category as Dave Kitson, that was grossly unfair!

Kitson, unlike TBH, quite clearly has not given his all for PFC for a long, long time - you could argue not given his all for any club for several years - so TBH probably has not deserved to be dropped, as I called for him to have been.

Whilst I was disappointed to see Rocha John Rocha miss out against Hull recently the move, on that night, helped play its part in guiding us to victory as moving TBH to right back gave us a much more balanced shape.

Shame about Burnley eh...

'If' TBH remains at right back for the remainder of the season then I would not put it past him scoring his first goal for the club. He has got forward well as a left back but as a right back, and being more comfortable in possession, his attacking threat could be enhanced.

Take away the obscene amounts of money that he gets paid and realistically TBH quite possibly has been as good as anyone and has to be in the top 3 or 4 players of the season I would guess.

We still need TBH to leave, and desperately so this summer, but his performances on the pitch in most games cannot be faulted so I will hold my hands up and issue him this apology that I think he deserves...

To be honest he has been one of the more consistent performers this season and he does what he gets paid to do, play football. In all honesty if someone said to me "look son youre on 10 grand a week but sod it I am gonna give you 36 grand " would I turn it down?, would I hell. Interesting you mention Kitson Rug as looking at the team the news are predicting for tomorrow they have Benjani as sub and Kitson nowhere. I know that may not be correct but to have Benji ahead of Kitson says volumes about how the ginger ninja is at the moment

Nice to see the apology, Rug. I think he's been probably the most consistently good player this season and always gives his all. His 'obscene' wages, as said, are not his fault. Although we want rid of him it's only for money reasons and he'll be missed when he eventually goes.
