Gabor Gyepes and others on trial

Gabor Gyepes and others on trial

Ahead of the game on Tuesday night the 'breaking news' were Trevor Birch's comments regarding Pompey being 'safe'...

At first glance it was seeming that we were not really hearing anything new, we could fulfil our fixtures etc., but then there were apparent quotes from him that 'any concerns over the clubs future were over!'

Not wanting to put a downer on anything but if these comments were taken out of context remains to be seen?

What you would have though was still likely to happen, regardless, was that player departures before the loan window closes would still happen as fact remains that we remain in admin and the wage bill is still unsustainable and needs to be brought inline with a more realistic amount...

Then again, maybe not?

Player arrivals, and not departures, are still possible though - so long as they are well within budget and at minimal, to no, costs to the club.

One arrival could be Hungarian defender Gabor Gyepes?

Also ahead of the Birmingham game, and what a fantastic second 45-minutes again eh - clearly the sending off changed the game but we made the most of it, talk coming through was that a player with Cardiff connections could be coming in?

Well technically this is true as Gyepes was with Cardiff until recently when he was released. He is on trial with Pompey, with him last week on trial with Preston in league one last week.

Did they not sign him because he was not good enough, or was it that they could not afford him or he did he just not want to join them?

I have no clue...

Appy, as he told The News, is unsure what will happen with him but is happy to look at him as defensive reinforcements could be needed: 'Gabor is training with us for a few days just to see where he is fitness-wise. You look at the bench the other night and it is certainly healthy going forward but we are a little bit short defensively with Aaron Mokoena being injured and Adam Webster on the bench as cover.

'Maybe we need to bring a defender in.

'Gabor is a free agent and we are in the situation now where we don't know what division we are going to be in.

'We will have a look at him and see where he is. If there is anything to do and we are able to do it we will make that decision.

'Gabor arrived on Monday, did a little bit on his own on Tuesday and will train with us today and Friday.

'We will take it from there really. That's the idea, just to see where he is.'

Other 'murmurs' on Tuesday night were that an Australian keeper was also on trial with Pompey?

One thing that is certain is that at least one other, an unnamed player at this point, is on trial with Pompey as he has been filmed training with the club today...

A late Barnet goal looked as though it would end Pompey's unbeaten run but Conor Chaplin proved the saviour when he scored a last minute equaliser to earn a point in a 1-1 draw.
