Henderson's West Ham departure confirmed

It had only been a matter of time as to when, and not if, Stephen Henderson would leave Pompey.

Well, confirmation has today come with The Pompey Site issuing this statement...

Henderson Joins West Ham

Stephen Henderson has joined West Ham on a loan deal until the end of the season.

The Blues will receive a significant loan fee for the 23-year-old Irish goalkeeper, while the Hammers will also pay the player`s wages.

Pompey boss Michael Appleton added: "We don't want to lose our best players, but the situation the club is in doesn't leave us with many options.

"Stephen has a fantastic future in the game and this is a good opportunity for him to join a club fighting to win promotion to the Premier League."

Henderson joined Pompey from Bristol City last summer and made his debut in a Carling Cup defeat to Barnet.

He made a total of 27 appearances for the Blues and was last month named in the Republic of Ireland squad for the first time.

So, Hendo becomes the latest to move on but he will almost certainly not be the last before next weeks loan window closure!

BBC Sport reports that Paul Jewell has said that Ipswich had been 'offered' at least two of our players...
