Mullins joins Royals on loan

Mullins joins Royals on loan

This news is hardly surprising but Hayden Mullins has finally completed his loan move to Reading.

Hayden signed for Pompey in January 2009 from West Ham for an estimated £750,000 and has been a model of consistency ever since. He has proved a versatile member of the squad and for that will be most missed by boss Michael Appleton. He has played in midfield as a holding player for the majority of his time at Fratton Park but has been equally comfortable at right back and even in the middle of the back four.

When Uncle Avram wanted a volunteer to play at left back in the 2010 FA Cup semi final with Spurs at Wembley two years ago it was Hayden who volunteered and had a great game snuffing out the pace of Aaron Lennon of the Londoner`s right flank.

So Hayden after over one hundred games for Pompey moves to the club of his home town being born in Reading on 27 March 1979. I am certain all Pompey fans will wish him well as the Royals attempt to gatecrash the promotion party.

Trevor Birch will give another sigh of relief as there is no doubt that Hayden was on Premier League wages and possibly the delay to the deal which was mooted some weeks ago was caused by discussions over a loan fee.

One point fans often have forgotten in this mass departure is that they are still Pompey players and if they are still in contract will demand a fee should the move become permanent.

a good servant whatever position he played. I preferred him at fullback though as opposed to midfield. So all these loan players come back at the end of the season & we have to start paying their wages again during summer when we have no income?

And another one bites the dust. Quite a vital one this time though. I fear we'll really miss Mullins in front of our defence.

Third time lucky? Nope as O'Shea interest ends

O'Shea saw a couple of bids for him put in; these were turned down by Chesterfield. A third bid hasn't come from Pompey and it isn't going to either.

Topping last seasons tally the aim

78pts was only enough for a play-off place last season so you suspect we'll have to better that for a top 3 finish this coming season, which begins with Carlisle at Fratton.
