James: 'Not Here For The Money'

James: 'Not Here For The Money'

David James, has told the Manchester Evening news that he has not given up on the England number one spot, 'Coming here puts me in the best position to attack the England No 1 spot. In the long term, with a three-year contract, I have the security to attack the England position.

'Steve rang me to explain his views and said he wanted to take a look at some of the younger keepers, and I have not got a problem with that. He knows what I am about."

'Everyone thinks the motivation for coming here is getting paid 500 million pounds a week, but I am not here for the money. It is about ambition.'

(WHERE PAYING HIM 500 MILLION? THAT IT!)

Redknapp had attacked Steve for leaving James and Campbell out of the squad but he has decided that it could be a good thing;

Redknapp said: 'I am not complaining. They are both still settling in and this will give them more time to get used to their new teammates before the weekend.'

'There is a top four in the Premiership, and then there is the rest.

'If you start the season well, you can find yourself in that top elevation. If you can maintain that, then why not Europe?'

James and Campbell (barring injury) will both go into the side for Saturday`s match against Blackburn.

The Walsall Low Down

Walsall's away record makes good reading for Pompey, who need to pick themselves up after last Saturday's defeat at Oxford.

Playing to Lowe's strengths

Lowe looked good when he came on against Rochdale but his sending off resulted in a ban - this suspension didn't apply to the Checkatrade Trophy when he scored two against Fulham.

Food for thought after Fulham

A sparse crowd was treated to a six goal thriller as Pompey and Fulham played out a 3-3 draw. The Blues missed the chance of a bonus point when losing the penalty shootout 4-3.
