He will not 'go without a fight' is something that Stephen Henderson, as he told The News, has said today regarding his Pompey future, or lack of it!
Whilst Henderson, with him admitting the situation is 'heartbreaking', does not want to go he knows that it is 'out of his hands' as to what happens with him: 'it's heartbreaking. Liam Lawrence wasn't just a great captain, he was a massive character in the dressing room.
'To lose him is disheartening, of course but I want to be here playing for these fans and doing everything I can to keep them up.
'I've said that and I stand by it. The decision may be out of my hands, though.
Some of the boys have had to go because of the situation we are in. The way I feel, though, is I want to stay and keep this team in the Championship.
'It has to be done, though. I hate to say it but it's either that or we go under. That's the reality of it.'
'I'm just going to keep playing unless I'm told to go. One thing's for sure, I won't go without a fight.'
Wonderful attitude to have and his comments will endear him to the Fratton faithful even more but I would be pretty surprised if he was still here come the weekend, let alone the end of the loan transfer window...
The sought after keeper looks as though he will become the next member of the squad to be moved on in order to cut costs, and bring in extra finances via a loan fee 'with a view to a permanent transfer' in the summer.
Ipswich seems his destination?
I would say the most demoralising thing is that whilst I suspect he is on 'decent money' he is 'probably' one of the lower earners of the 1st team squad, but unfortunately he is one of the very best and most sought after!
If he does not go now he will be sold in the summer - if we make it that far - but how I would rather he was able to stay though and help us fight for survival, in a footballing sense actually on-the-pitch...
