Henderson the next sacrificial lamb?

Henderson the next sacrificial lamb?

He will not 'go without a fight' is something that Stephen Henderson, as he told The News, has said today regarding his Pompey future, or lack of it!

Whilst Henderson, with him admitting the situation is 'heartbreaking', does not want to go he knows that it is 'out of his hands' as to what happens with him: 'it's heartbreaking. Liam Lawrence wasn't just a great captain, he was a massive character in the dressing room.

'To lose him is disheartening, of course but I want to be here playing for these fans and doing everything I can to keep them up.

'I've said that and I stand by it. The decision may be out of my hands, though.

Some of the boys have had to go because of the situation we are in. The way I feel, though, is I want to stay and keep this team in the Championship.

'It has to be done, though. I hate to say it but it's either that or we go under. That's the reality of it.'

'I'm just going to keep playing unless I'm told to go. One thing's for sure, I won't go without a fight.'

Wonderful attitude to have and his comments will endear him to the Fratton faithful even more but I would be pretty surprised if he was still here come the weekend, let alone the end of the loan transfer window...

The sought after keeper looks as though he will become the next member of the squad to be moved on in order to cut costs, and bring in extra finances via a loan fee 'with a view to a permanent transfer' in the summer.

Ipswich seems his destination?

I would say the most demoralising thing is that whilst I suspect he is on 'decent money' he is 'probably' one of the lower earners of the 1st team squad, but unfortunately he is one of the very best and most sought after!

If he does not go now he will be sold in the summer - if we make it that far - but how I would rather he was able to stay though and help us fight for survival, in a footballing sense actually on-the-pitch...

Goota agree Rug that the next two out the door would be Hendo and Pearcey. Sadly!! Hoping they stay though and someone would like to pay Kitson £20k a week.

be gutted to lose him as he all that we need & not a top earner. Yes TBH or Kitson or even Rocha are top money. Can't see Ipswich as much of a step up.

He's gone mates, he of course can refuse but I think Birch will start putting about in the press that Henderson is putting the club at risk. So far everything Birch said wouldn't happen has happened.... keep the team together - team go's....... no Chan debenture - then there is a debenture..... no return for Chanrai- highly likely Chan returns ...... no discussion with Gaydamak- I'm arranging to meet Sasha Gaydamak ... I will sue CSI - er your a creditor to CSI - you have to ask; is he Andronikou in de skies ???? But I'm told he's a great guy who really loves the club ( aahhh) and (soft soaping) the fans.

I wonder if we could sell Bob - the mesiah- Beech to the tractor boys; they can have the remainder of the not so holy trinity yep Kitson and TBH !
05/03/2012 16:19:00
Hendo, Ward, Pearce within the next week I would imagine, with BC back in contention.
05/03/2012 16:31:00
Will we be the first team in the Championship to field 11 players (barely available) and no substitutes? Or, come the next game will Birch have let even more players go & Appy will have to play in goal! Birch's philosophy seems to be "when you are in a swamp and up to your arse in alligators, you try to drain the swamp" There seems to be a distinct lack of intellegent thinking about how things are going at the moment. Lots of action and little thought being applied. Chan definitly isn't the answer even in the short term.
05/03/2012 17:04:00
I'm really notg to sure about that! I think BC could well be the answer as he has said that he will write off some of his debt to let the club be sold and he has also let it be known that he will put some money into the club. I am wondering why TB has made so many drastic cuts so quickly? Surely Kitson would be the fav to be booted out on loan, as he's rubbish and he is on a high wage. Don't understand why the backbone of the squad are being ripped apart for really silly reasons. Doesn't make sense. Yes get some money in by getting rid of some high earners but the likes of Henderson and co surely can't be on that fantastic a wage and by all accounts they have already agreed to have wage cuts. Something a bit fishy here me thinks! The quicker BC can come in and put his money where his mouth is the better for me I'm afraid chaps!
