3rd March 2012...
Will that prove to be the last time that Portsmouth Football Club, as we know it now, play at Fratton Park?
My gut instinct was no, and from what Trevor Birch said at the conference meeting on Saturday I think my gut was right!
Will we see out the 2011/12 season though?
Now that my gut is not so sure about! My heart says yes but my head has to be honest and says no...
What I am sure as hell about though is we do what is best for Portsmouth Football Club and not others, although the administrator job is to do what is best for the creditors.
I am not going to try and lay blame here, there and everywhere. We all know where we are and why we are here.
What I say if f**k the football league though!
By that I mean why should we loan out every bugger we can just to 'see out the season!' If that is what we are looking to do I say sod that!
When we got to the end of January, and the transfer window closed, we were delighted that players were not sold as this gave us the chance to fight on with dignity and a good shout of survival. It also gave us that chance to 'go to the wall' with exactly that, dignity...
Loaning out everyone that we can just to see out the season and then be liquidated anyway would be of little comfort to me.
The way I see it is if there is no way to save this club why bother saving it in the short-term just so we can fulfil our fixtures?!
Balls to the football league and balls to those secured creditors - unsecured creditors, especially the everyday working class business that will be caused grave problems, if not go out of business as a result, I do feel for - but lets go out with some fighting spirit and some dignity that we deserve eh.
Let the football league pick up the pieces if we cannot make it through until the end of the season, why continue to ship out players on loan and prolong our agony, with us crawling forget limping, along just to get the season complete!
IF doing this means that PFC will have a long-term future then I guess needs must, but I am far from convinced that doing this is going to make it anymore likely that we will have anything more than a short-term future anyway to be honest.
Keep loaning these players out if it is best for PFC and our long-term future, not just to ensure we make it the short-term to get through this season.
Sadly, if reports are to be correct, Stephen Henderson is off to Ipswich so it appears that my thoughts are pointless as offloading player after player will continue...
