How Pompey Will Spend 30 Million

Pompey signings thus far;
David James- Manchester City, £1.2m
David Thompson- Wigan, free
Sol Campbell- Arsenal, free
Glen Johnson- Chelsea, loan

Portsmouth are supposedly armed with a 30 million transfer kitty! We have only spent 1.2 million of that so far however; Fernandes should sign today for either 8.5 or 10 million depending what you read. Let`s call it 10 million for arguments sake. Portsmouth will open talks with Martins today, after the club agreed an eleven and a half million pounds offer from Portsmouth (according to reports in Italy) Kanu should also be confirmed as a Pompey player today!

Unlikely, but if Martins does sign along with the other two that would be 22.7 million pounds spent this summer. I also expect us to make a 5 million pound move for Sulley Muntari taking the spending 27.7 million. (If not Muntari then a left sided player around the 5 million mark. Barry?) With the rest of the money being put towards Sol Campbell and Martins wages.

If Pompey don`t sign Martins (should I say when we don`t) Harry is thought to be ready to go after Forlan and a second striker (maybe Nugent) Even if he did it this way we would be getting on for 30 million pounds spent this summer.

So what was the point of that article? Um… I guess that the big money signings are on their way, they should be kick started by the signing of Fernandes today.

Distin deal may also be back on, more to follow on that later.

Any of the named striker s will do but i dont think Martins wants to come, he has made it clear with statements (well agent & club statements) we are his third choice option, he apparently knows Kanu very well but would we get the best of him ?

Get real people - Martins will not sign for a club who are not playing in the Champions League, let alone Europe. £30m is completely pie in the sky - Gaydamak will spend what is necessary to take us where we need to go, so lets end this speculation and gossip and just see what happens. I'm bored of reading the tripe that gets posted on this and many other Pompey sites.

And dont reply with the 'well you don't have to read it' message. I know I don't have to read it, but I do - in the hope that one day I will see something that is worth reading.

If you know you don't have to read it, but still do surely you can't complain about what you read. I'm inclined to agree that much as i would like it to happen Martins is unlikely to sign for Pompey but all the time a bid is on the table it's a valid topic of conversation.

I'd rather Harry went for Forlan a class player top scorer in la liga say no more

I can complain as much as I want. I'm a Pompey fan and am used to complaining. It started when we sold Alan Biley to Brighton as has gone on ever since. So poke it.

Oh thats nice, despite all we've had to complain about over the years, some people just aren't happy unless they're complaining. I don't see much to complain about when the club are being linked with big money moves for world class players. True until the facilities are improved our chances of signing them are not so hot but we are at least able to compete with other teams in the transfer market now.

i would say the possibility of signing martins is as predictable as the weather in england. you can be quick to dismiss the transfer BUT we were quick to dismiss campbell's signing and if martins has an ounze of ambition he will choose 1st team for a season getting us into europe than bench warming some european team. does he want to become a hero or a penny pinching scumbag. im sorry i have this rant all the time, but footballers only want money. i would rather play for an up and coming team guaranteed playing FOOTBALL (thats what i thought footballers do??) than sit on a bench watching footballers. we havnt heard much from the fernandes deal, will he sign today? is vargas deal dead completely then? kanu signed yet? would be good to have all 3 by the end of today, then i would start to worry about my small bet on blackburn!

quick look on football manager 06, obafemi martins is 20 years old and a wonderkid, valued around 16.75mil july 2005... although they say his wages are £4,100pw... believe what you like.

ok lets say we get him, cant agree with Les in the 2nd positng, cant agree with Les, 1 player wont make a Euro dream, I would love to be wrong but sadly i think that Alan Biley & Billy Gilberts love child does have several points i have already made, the player is openly hostile to coming here and believes another club will come in for him,and the guy is probably right. We have to improve the club full stop. The budget is not 30 mill but whatever the minimum we can spend to get the income Sacha needs. As for forlan , great in spain, great in CL, exceedingly average in the EPL, but he also has said no before.I still think Harry will pull one out that no one expected just before deadline day, he did that before so there was not time left for any enforced book balancing departures.

its good innit, but i remember last year people were getting me to watch a video from a chap called john viafara and it was similar. i think fernandes will be a better player, but everyone can show some skills. people interested in matty would be shown the goal he scored against sunderland... doesnt make him an amazing player.

Fernandes video does look good and will be pleased to finally see the deal go through. Viafara had a lot more to offer than he was allowed. Had he been able to speak English then i'm not sure HR would've got rid of him. He seems to be wowing that lot down the road now anyway.

stevec i agree, pompey pessimist you are ignoring Harry's prejudices, Viafara never got a run, like Priske, who only moaned (as somebody posted) because he was clearly better than a lot of what we were fielding and then wasnt allowed to stay and fight for his place. You might also remember its only because we had a certain monsuier Perrin that Gary O'neil got a proper chance, and when the Messiah returned the ever political Milan still had to insist he stayed.

why don't we stop *****ing around with martins and forlan (players who are highly unlikely to ever sign for pompey unless overpaid by 10k a week) and get real. Get Harry an air ticket to Buenos Aires and sign Boca Juniors strike pairing Martin palermo (big strong and suited to the English game) along with Rodrigo palacio (young, pacy and suited to the English game). Why do we go for the obvious? Lets get a proper scouting system introduced, rather than reading the tabloid sports sections for potential transfer targets. Where's our Frank Arnesan type guru? It would money well spent to my mind. Along with a youth system that the club actually invested in for the long term, you never know we might actually bring some young players through the ranks for money we can afford. It can't be that difficult. Can it? Pompey seem to think so....

If we have to pay over the odds to get what we want then so be it. We need to break the mould as Chelsea did, though we can't quite compete at that level.

it seems Muntari has told BBCi that he is 99% coming to portsmouth, LoL so that'll never appane then, if he does though apparently 8 miil of the 30 mill will be gone, how do they budget new player salaries is it included in the 30 ?
