A captain's speech

A captain's speech

I have to be honest that I have not always been Liam Lawrence's biggest fan.

When he arrived I thought he was fantastic, although for the second half of last season and the early part of this - when he was not injured - I did not see him actually contributing much for his high earnings...

Prior to his latest injury I was seeing more of the fully committed Lawro that we wanted to see, with him more often than not leading by example, also something that he had not always done since becoming captain.

I thought he gave a quality press conference today and I take my hat off to him, as I do the rest of the players for deferring a portion of their wages until the end of the season.

He, along with Stephen Henderson and Luke Varney will actually be selling tickets for the Leeds game tomorrow, so maybe this will give some a little extra incentive to pop down and collect their tickets for the weekend?

We certainly need as many as we can to Pack The Park this weekend, and literally every penny counts at the moment!

The situation might look dire, it might look grim and there might not be a way out this time but lets continue to fight on and, if we do end up folding, fold with our heads held high and at the very least see out the season.

Everyone is pulling together, lets stay in this together and follow his lead - our leader has given a captains speech, now lets help do our part...

He, along with Henderson and Kelvin Etuhu feature in this short 'together as one' video featured on The Pompey Site today.

What a Speech he's given! He is a true captain... We need players like LL, especially at this time. Come on Pompey, let us beat the odds and survive....

The piece that is on the news is great as well. If the feeling by the players is as good as he reckons then we could do ok. Also fair play to the players for taking a 25% pay deferral. My bet is that they never get that money back

It doesn't happen often in the Premier League or Championship thesedays, but League's 1 & 2 still suffer the odd postponement owing to the weather and Mike Riley...

Finest in the Football League

I don't hide how highly I rate Chaplin. I feel he's the best striker in league two - better than most in league one. Cook said he is the best goalscorer outside the Premier League.
