News after Snooze- 16/8/06

News after snooze- is a new feature on Vital Pompey. It should be posted before you travel into work, enabling you enough time to read it.

Some people will buy their favourite paper and others will buy a couple in hope that at least one has a bit of Pompey news in it. This article will basically recommend what paper you should buy, as far as Pompey news goes anyway.

The Daily Mirror is reporting that Martin O`Neil will use Angel to get Petrov (former Pompey target) to join Aston Villa.

The paper I would suggest buying is The Times, it has an article saying that Manuel Fernandes will complete his 8.5 million pound move to Portsmouth today.

If you see any other Pompey News in the paper today email me at lesmatthewspfc@hotmail.com and I will update the story.

I hear that Distin may go to Middlesbrough as their bid has been accepted by City - so that may mean either Harry will also bid or go after Huth, now that Boro don't want him. I'd be happy with either....

If we did what formation do you think harry will play next season 5 at the back with Johnson and Taylor as wing backs 3 in midfield and 2 up front?

I think he'll experiment with that type of formation - he seems to like Paramot as a sweeper on occassions allowing Taylor and now Johnson to attack more. He may not start games with this formation as he seems to love 4-4-2. By the way, the latest rumour being Jan Vanegoor of Hesselink with an asking tag of a mere 7 million - Apart from having the longest surname in world football he scored some great goals on PSV's Champions League run and I rate this guy - I'd be more than happy with him though the fans will definitely have trouble singing a song for him - There's only one Venegoor of Hesselink !

Vennegoor is ok but hardly prolific. he has played for PSV for at least five years and may suit the Dutch league but he must be nearly 30 and I would think seven million is far too much for him. PSV are a clever club when it comes to transfers. they buy cheap from provincial dutch clubs and sell big across europe. witness van nistelrooy who they made about £10m on in about two years. They have also done the same with Ronaldo, Eidur Gudjohnsen. If you want an example of them selling cheap then look no further than Wilfred Boomer the Aston Villa defender. he cost Villa £3.5m and on last seasons performances looks worth about a tenth of that. In my estimation we would be far better off paying Ajax £12m for Huntelaar who at 21 will have a better sell on value than Vennegoor who will drift back to a provincial dutch club for nothing.
