New arrivals? Doubtful Appy I am afraid

Hands up those that think it is time the football league actually clarified a few things with Pompey?

Yep, I can see a good number raised among them is Appy!

Last week he said that he felt it was high time that the football league clarified exactly what the position is as regards to allowing teams to have a 'minimum squad size of 20.'

Pompey are limited to just 18, or something like that, 1st team players with only 13 currently available to him!

And the options available to Appy continue to diminish with injuries and suspensions, coupled with a number of walking wounded...

Given our situation it is fair to say that you can understand why we have not been allowed to go out and strengthen too much, nor should we, but we at least have to be given the chance to be 'competitive' in this league?

Even more so following the 10pts penalty as a result of administration (again) that we got last week.

The squad depth is 'probably' going to diminish yet further, forgetting injuries and the like, in the time ahead as I am far from convinced that the approval of a new deal for Kelvin Etuhu will come about?

Remember he was only signed on a month-to-month contract!

Yep we have to accept the 10pts penalty as a result of administration, that is a mandatory figure. Although is it not also mandatory that a club has to at least be 'competitive?'

So is this not something we should be allowed to do with some loan arrivals to take us up to a 20-man 1st team squad?

After all, like I say, was this mandatory 20 not what the football league say is a minimum to ensure a club is able to compete fairly?

George Thorne was approved before Barnsley but we really need to be allowed to bring in another loanee ahead of the weekend, at least!

Trevor Birch, following a meeting with the football league, is not optimistic though...

Do not get me wrong I appreciate the predicament that we are in, and can understand that we cannot justify extra costs but if clubs are willing to loan us players at their expense surely the football league should allow this?

By doing this they then ensure that PFC can be competitive and we stand a fighting chance of survival this season...

Well, football was never a level playing field, but should we be embarassed by trying to "gain an advantage" with loan players instead of playing academy boys? No, we must do everything to retain our position in this league or it may take years to get back. Good luck to the manager, but I do not think the league is too bothered if we are competitive or not.
