Cala's out!
Pompey WILL NOT be owned by Joseph Cala!
The News reports the following: 'Sicilian American businessman Joseph Cala has told The News he has withdrawn his bid to buy Pompey.
Only yesterday Cala said he was '95 per cent sure' to take over at Fratton Park.
The 50-year-old, who founded an underwater hotel firm, said discussions with former owner Balram Chainrai's company, Portpin, over future securities were holding up the completion of a takeover deal.
But speaking to The News the businessman admitted his bid to buy the south coast club was over.'
For a while it 'seemed' like Cala seriously could become our next owner, but lets face it he had little 'credibility' and seemed nothing more than a 'fantasist' who appeared to like the attention that his media talk brought him...
Admin Andy 'claims' that two or three parties are interested but he does not expect a deal to be concluded until next week, a feeling of déjà vu here.
Whenever a deal will be concluded lets just hope this will happen!
All in all I would image that not many can say that they are (a) surprised that Cala has backed out and (b) disappointed that he has decided to do so.
Has our 'only option' bite the dust, or is it just a case of a major tyre kicker running out of steam and being found out?
Time will tell, but time is not something that PFC have much of...

I agree with the above - a non-serious contender from the start. IHMWG if the money runs out we're back into admin and points deduction is inevitable.

I think it's just that he couldn't provide the payment guarantees to Chanrai and was hoping that the man would take a much reduced payout. I hope that BC takes control again or at least carries on subsidizing the club to allow someone with the wherewithal to take ownership.

The whole thing just seems like a publicity stunt trying to promote his undersea casinos. Everytime his name has been mentioned that has also come up. Let's see if it pays off for him, but in terms of Pompey.....I'm glad he has set sail!

I never had a good feeling over his bid. He probably couldn't get the deal he wanted o/and Chanrai couldn't trust him to pay, once bitten. I doubt id Chanrai will let us get relegated/points loss as this will reduce the value he puts on the club.
