Kanu Watches His New Teammates?

Our leader Les Matthews may be away but he has still found time between sunning himself and no doubt partaking in a cold beverage to send me information, which I will now pass on to you all at Vital Pompey.

His news was that Kanu had been spotted at Fratton Park during the Porto game. I have to admit it was news to me at the time, and had it not been for the fact that I had to work this afternoon and evening I would have got an article on right away. Most of you could be well aware of this by now, as the Portsmouth News has since reported it.

Kanu was apparently tying up loose ends on a deal with the club as he watched from the director`s box, and was due to undertake a medical today. Should Kanu come through the medical, if he hasn`t already, I`d expect him to be announced as another Pompey signing shortly.

Other targets, Juan Vargas and Manuel Fernandes are still training with the club as their proposed moves await completion. Vargas is reportedly awaiting a work permit and Fernandes is working with the medical team so they can keep assessing the injury that caused the deal to collapse originally.

Speaking of Les, he will be back with us shortly so I will be handing the reins back over to him on Sunday. I hope that I`ve (along with help from Chris, Pete and Sam) been able to fill his shoes sufficiently to keep you as informed and entertained as I could…

Kanu's won a Champions League Medal and played for Arsenal's title winning side, certainly he knows how to play in a winning team - hopefully Harry will get more goals from him than the West Brom managers did.....

Kanu is certainly a capable player; my only concern is that he sometimes tends to drift in and out of matches, perhaps looking a bit disinterested at times. Could be considered to be in the Lua Lua mould, in that when he suddenly comes to life he can totally change the course of a match. Wouldn't be a bad freebie by any means.

Kanu was excellent at Arsenal and will be here. He had an injury at Brom and didnt like Robson... Many didnt so thats not a reflection on him either. He'll come good.

Also. Mr Rug. You are doing a grand job. Matthews is rubbish, and pulls comments he doesnt like. So keep up the good work Mate and dont put yourself down.

Kanu never really had an extended run in the West Brom team though did he? He seemed to be in and out for me, either due to injury or Robson constantly chopping and changing the forward combination trying to find one that worked? I think it's fair to say we rarely saw his best at WBA but given the chance sure he'd do a job, and on a FREE, wages aside not much to lose is there? He certainly could fall into the LuaLua mould though Tantona, you are right but also like you I feel he wouldn't be a bad freebie...

I think kanu would make a great backup striker, its obvious hes not even a 10 a season striker. Im still a bit gutted we couldnt get hold of H Camara, with Camara & Lua we would terrories defences both have great pace & skill!..on a team like ours Camara would get 15 I recon!..still Kanu will be cheap & would be a good adition, he is not however the answer to our striker black hole!!

I think this signing could go either way. he flatters to deceive at times but who knows. He´ll get a rocket up his arse from the fans if he doesn´t give 100%. He might just be here to help Obafemi martins settle in, not that he´s likely to join us (see my previous rants about Jermain Defoe).

Kanu shouldn't be judged on his performances for West Brom, any striker needs the right sort of service, that was sadly lacking for him there. True i doubt he will prove to be a prolific scorer but he has skill and will bring players into the game and may just help to spread the goals around the rest of the team.

Kanu watching, well he will do a lot pf theat, from the bench. As for the 'geordie knobhead'. It's a bit like Chelsea or Man U taking the**** out of you. Very pointless. So you're bigger than us, get the flags out.

dear geordie boys, pompy? its pompey to those of us who can spell. Listen mate we´ve already seen sol campbell choose us over you lot so why shouldn´t martins follow us. The only european football he´ll get with you lot is a couple of UEFA cup matches, which is hardly top draw stuff. Down here we´ve got Gunwharf keys, a big asda, three train stations and superb views of gosport. all you´ve got is Jimmy Nail, shearer mania, and a manager no one´s ever heard of. Oh by the way thanks for Lua Lua and taking Amdy Faye off us as well. Good luck this season challenging Aston Villa for 8th.

we already have a player who has no positional disciplin and drifts in and out of games. Thats why he fell oput with Robson and why Wenger said good bye, and as i posted before he got less goals in 15 games than Toddy got in 7, and as for freebie, in football nothing is. Hopefully Muntari or Martins will be here, so we'll never have to risk him. As for the Geordie boys, well they have a great history of turning great players in to losers, Owen hates it oop toon and of their two greatest heros, one is a wife beating drunk and the other was trained by the scummers, and lets be honest bellamy's gone and they'll soon turn on Roeder

To be fair, when we've played against Newcastle at St. James Park we've been appalling so it's no wonder they think we're crap. However, if their club is so great I wish they would stop moaning about it. The chaiman, the location, the players all get stick at some point in the season. The only thing that they don't moan about is the colour of their jerseys.

In my opinion Harry's success rate with free transfers is around 50% - I'd be prepared to take the risk when we only have 1 fit striker at the moment.....
