Hasta la vista

After 123 appearances spanning 4-½-years The Herminator has officially left Pompey.

This departure for Coventry has been expected since the weekend and has now happened today, as The Pompey Site confirmed this afternoon - more details below...

I am absolutely 100% convinced that each and everyone of us wishes Hermann the best for the future and thanks him for his efforts while he was with Pompey.

Hermann Joins Coventry

Hermann Hreidarsson has signed for Championship strugglers Coventry City.

The defender made just two appearances for Pompey this season - the 2-2 draw at Middlesbrough on the opening day of the season and 1-0 Fratton defeat to Brighton a week later.

In July he signed a new one-year contract after recovering from a serious Achilles injury suffered against Tottenham in March 2010.

Blues boss Michael Appleton said: "Hermann has been a great servant to Pompey over the last few years and is someone I've enjoyed working with since I joined the club. We wish him all the best for the future at Coventry."

Hreidarsson made 123 appearances for Pompey after arriving from Charlton in the summer of 2007.

The 37-year-old Iceland international scored the first of his eight goals for the club in the incredible 7-4 victory over Reading in September 2007.

He was a member of the side that beat Cardiff at Wembley to lift the FA Cup in 2008 and also played a part in the Blues' maiden UEFA Cup campaign the following season.

Hreidarsson began his professional career with Icelandic side IBV, before moving to Crystal Palace in 1997. He has also had spells at Brentford, Wimbledon, and Ipswich.

With this departure a new loan arrival will almost certainly be confirmed within the next day or so with Appy saying as much earlier today.

Hermann ... A true 'fans favourite' if ever there was one ... A good decision all round considering where we (and he) are. Hope to see him back at Fratton one day .. if only to get a proper send off.

Thank you Hermann Hreidarsson; you have been an excellent leader off and on the pitch. I'd love to see Hermann and Jamo managing Pompey in a few years time, and having Ward and Wilson playing in our midfield!
