Player of 2011...

Player of 2011...

The search for the Vital Pompey player of the year for 2011 has concluded with a clear winner found!

With the calendar year recently ending it was interesting to look at who the membership on this site thought was our standout performer of 2011.

For me this was especially tough as, like has so often happened in recent years, we continued to have a decent player turnover rate so some of those that were here in the early part of 2011 were not here when the year ended and visa versa of course.

That said we had 'probably' seen our most settled summer period in a number of years so a good number of players were retained during the summer months.

The next problem that posed itself was exactly how many players had really had a good 12-months?

A problem that I seemed to find was that a number were good, or goodish, between January and May 2011 and then the same can be said about the new arrivals for this season so August to the end of December 2011, but this in particular is a short period of time to judge players?

Of course no one can play well every week but it then became more of a case of who had been the most consistent performer probably, and based on this I think that the winner, 'Mr Consistency' was just about right...

This was done, and done fairly for me as opinions were canvassed with names put forward, usually with reasoning to back this, so from these names a vote was carried out in the forum and this vote came to this conclusion:

Hayden Mullins - 47.37%
Greg Halford - 26.32%
Jason Pearce - 15.79%
Joel Ward - 10.53%
David 'Chuck' Norris - 0%
Luke 'Reg' Varney - 0%

So, the Vital Pompey player of the year for 2011 was Hayden Mullins!

Check out the forum thread where the voting took place to also see some of the views shared click - here.

The forum was the place for this because you could only vote the once and could also only see how the voting was going once you had voted - so your vote had to be based purely on what you thought and could see only the one vote per member too.

Hayden got my vote because I thought there was no other candidate and he always gives 100%. He is at the level in the Championship and has so much experience to back that up.

Pompey aim remains the same

Doncaster, Carlisle & Plymouth are the teams to catch. Pompey are further adrift than we would want but the aim to finish top 3 remains the same. That's targeted in the coming weeks.
