Redknapp wants at least two more

Redknapp wants at least two more

After convincing Sol Campbell that Pompey is the place to be Harry Redknapp is looking to sign at least two more before the season begins.

I think it`s fair to say that after Glen Johnson`s loan and David Thompson`s free transfer arrivals we are all more than pleased with Campbell`s, if for nothing else other than the simple reason as Redknapp himself said to Sky Sports "he'll give the place a real lift just coming in."

We will all now be hoping that Redknapp can add at least two more (personally I`d like more but I am greedy!) as he would like before the Blackburn game. Even after that we will still have up until the end of August 31st to sign others! Ideally we would like players to arrive before the season starts so they can begin bedding in before we get underway, but if they are the right people we`d be happy to wait, if we had to, right up to the stroke of midnight on that Thursday.

Without wanting to speculate too much on who might arrive I will say that although a deal seems to be taking a long time to complete Peruvian Juan Vargas would seem to be one of these and, maybe not to everyone`s approval, David James (Redknapp`s recent comments mean he clearly rates him) looks like being another, the latter possibly within the next couple of days with perhaps a three-year contract in the offering?

I make a personal plea on behalf of us all "a forward or forwards please Mr Redknapp!"

Juan Vargas and Manuel Fernandes plus Nugent would be ideal.

Harry appeared to back off chasing Petrov once he'd started playing saying that it was unfair to unsettle him. However, with Martin O'Neil's interest in taking Petrov to Villa, such considerations become invalid so I'd like to see another (winning) offer made for Petrov whilst there's still time.

Almost there...stay on target

The win over Newport saw Pompey react well to the defeat to Stevenage with most results going in the Blues' favour too, meaning we've effectively got a seven point buffer on Boro.

With Doncaster and Plymouth yet to play Portsmouth took advantage to close the gap and extend it on the chasing pack. Newport & Leyton Orient look likely to be relegated.
