Redknapp wants at least two more

After convincing Sol Campbell that Pompey is the place to be Harry Redknapp is looking to sign at least two more before the season begins.

I think it`s fair to say that after Glen Johnson`s loan and David Thompson`s free transfer arrivals we are all more than pleased with Campbell`s, if for nothing else other than the simple reason as Redknapp himself said to Sky Sports "he'll give the place a real lift just coming in."

We will all now be hoping that Redknapp can add at least two more (personally I`d like more but I am greedy!) as he would like before the Blackburn game. Even after that we will still have up until the end of August 31st to sign others! Ideally we would like players to arrive before the season starts so they can begin bedding in before we get underway, but if they are the right people we`d be happy to wait, if we had to, right up to the stroke of midnight on that Thursday.

Without wanting to speculate too much on who might arrive I will say that although a deal seems to be taking a long time to complete Peruvian Juan Vargas would seem to be one of these and, maybe not to everyone`s approval, David James (Redknapp`s recent comments mean he clearly rates him) looks like being another, the latter possibly within the next couple of days with perhaps a three-year contract in the offering?

I make a personal plea on behalf of us all "a forward or forwards please Mr Redknapp!"

We need a Striker, Creative Midfielder and a Left Back and please please please don't sign James, he is way past it.
Linvoy#1
great to get sol to ure club he's still a very good defender u should of a strong back 4 next season

Strikers, strikers, strikers. Score more goals than them! Come on Harry.
WalshWasGod
getta striker for definate we only need 1 or 2 central midfielders cos we got loads
pompeyvoice501
Juan Vargas and Manuel Fernandes plus Nugent would be ideal.
Tantona
I like ur thinkin Tantona!

for me it's Vargas, fernandes and Muntari ideally, i'm not sure it is necessary and i cant see it happening but i would love us to give petrov one last shot, if only to upset that midget minger

Harry appeared to back off chasing Petrov once he'd started playing saying that it was unfair to unsettle him. However, with Martin O'Neil's interest in taking Petrov to Villa, such considerations become invalid so I'd like to see another (winning) offer made for Petrov whilst there's still time.

I'd like Nugent, he's young, enthusiastic and has the potential. He'd not only be one for now, but also the future. Maybe he could have a similar impact as Darren Bent has at Charlton? I can see Kanu arriving, not quite sure what to make of it, but like Thompson to a digree (although he'll be on a bit more I'd think!) we coul be onto a winner...
pompeyrug
If Spurs resign Mido that will unsettle Defoe. Break the bank & get him.
storagematt
Nugent would be good, sadly i can also see Kanu arriving instead as i have posted before i dont think we have much call for a non scoring striker. If my memory serves (but it frequently doesn't) Kanu scored less in 20 games than Toddy scored in 7, no wonder the Toddy is upset. I must admit i had given up on JD a long time ago but the Mido story wont die so storagematt does have a point.

kanu, james and vargas will be the three players i can see us signing. others i think we could get if we cant or even for more squad depth will be distin, fernandes (provided he passes another medical) and possibly muntari/appiah/martins but i cant see us offering for the last three. still not enough strikers though. if we get kanu i will be happy but i think we need one more PROLIFIC striker, the 20+ a season striker. yakubu anyone? lol

I'd rather have Claridge then Kanu. He was pretty pants for the Baggies. What has he got that we don't already?
storagematt
come on Jermaine, think, ur never going to get a starting spot playin for those boring Spurs!!! come down to the south coast & become worshipped by the best fans in the world!!....come & join ur old mate Arry!
CharlieChimes
storagematt, The answer to your question is NOTHING, his average is worse than Toddy's. For me Kanu would be the least beneficial but the cheapest, Nugent at a probable 6mil the most risky but he's young so probably the best value, Defoe, Muntari, Martins or Appiah, now they would be a club statement of intent.
russellm
Dear Harry we need to strengthen the 'strike' force, more importantly with 'The Flipper' out of action. If we are to sign a 'pin ball wizard' then let's dig deep into the coffers and 'score' as much as possible. I don't want to 'replay' these comments.
pompeygray
I think Harry will get some player no one has discussed yet, just at the last minute. I think Kanu will simply be a squad member when someone is injured.
StuartM
Skysports just showe pearce announcing james likely to go to south coast club and wishing him well. Say what you like about the man's tactics but as a bloke he is a bit of class
russellm
Apart from needing a top quality striker we need some natural width. Maybe Routledge could fit the bill, didn't get much of an opportunity while he was here on loan but he does seem to worry defenders although sometimes maybe tries to do a bit much.
Steve C
skysports now saying our James bid rejected, i say good. Dont really see Routledge as a starter lots of worrying defenders followed by a misplaced pass, but maybe as you said he didnt get much match practice. Think energy sjould be spent somewhere else but if another loan deal could be in the offing or he's not too pricey why not.
russellm
I don't really see James as a sensible option either, i'd rather they went for a younger up and coming keeper. We already have two excellent keepers at the club. I know he's injured at the moment but you have to wonder what sort of message Jamie Ashdown is getting from a bid for Calamity James. Ashdown in my opinion is a better keeper, has been tipped for the England number 1 spot in the future and if you believe what you hear we now have the best goalkeeping coach in the country. Wheres the logic in signing an overrated 36 year old?
Steve C
reading my previous comment, BBC South just reported that pompey are rumoured to have tabled a 15million pound bid for YAKUBU!!!!! You read it here first!
pompey pessimist
Shame the Yak had to be sold. Would have him back without any hesitation. At the time the move to Boro made sese for him. If not lets get Defoe.
storagematt
some would be sceptical over yak coming back after saying he was going to a "bigger club". Just coz its cold, boro are no bigger than us, but played in europe... not exactly massive. the fact is... he is PROVEN PREM STRIKER! well we have 40 mil budget, say 30 if we remove 10 for sols wages lol, thats 15 for yak and 15 for defoe. we would be unstoppable with that team!
pompey pessimist
I can't see YAKABU returning to Pompey by maybe, just maybe HR could do a deal for Defoe. The guy isn't going to be first choice, especially if Spurs sign Mido. I know Spurs will want 4 strikers for european football but they could and hopefully will for our benifit be knocked out at the first hurdle.
nelson
so defoe seems to have the vote, would no one be happy if Sacha gets his man, Muntari ?
