Talking, Hobbling...Nothing At All

As you are probably all aware it has been confirmed that Pompey are continuing talks with Sol Campbell, he has indeed undertaken a medical at Fratton Park.

Harry Redknapp confirmed that more talks had taken place today but denied that a deal had been finalised as some had suggested. Redknapp would again echo his sentiments on how highly he rated Campbell and how much he would like to acquire his services and hopes to sign him.

No further news however on the Lomana LuaLua injury though I`m afraid. The BBC say he could face a month out but no results on a possible scan have yet been revealed by the club itself.

The Juan Vargas deal is also yet to be completed as it had hoped it would be today. Hopefully there will be something more concrete on this and the rest of the above tomorrow?

If Campbell is undergoing a medical surely that is a clear sign that he is about to sign, otherwise why bother.

Lucky you!
sexyyid
great signing for you if everything goes through, he should pass the medical, 40k a week apparently
green giant 12
Cambells an absolute Judas who also has a screw lose fair play to pompey i have nohing against you lot just make sure all the exits are sealed when you go one nil down and its cambells fault or u might never see him again!
sexyyid
whilst it's always delightfull to have visitors on our site, particularly those who consider themselves sexy, and not without some concern for those whose giant bits have gone green, i would like to move off the subject of mad desciples who wish to join exit, i would like to note that original reports stated Vargas would go back to Argentina after his medical to tie up things with his family and would be flying back tuesday (tomorrow). His web site still says he plays for Portsmouth de Inglaterra and still says how great he is, so we should probably expect something from the true messiah tomorrow evening or wednesday morning.
russellm
russellm, we are green with envy over the Sol deal, if Portsmouth can pull this off it will be the the linchpin to attract more major names. If you still need the renovations done on the cheap my uncle is still available.
GreenGiant13
Shrek and Co...good offer greengiant. We may need some help the way our plans are going.
pompeygray
So let's hope Man City don't scupper the Sol deal as the defence looks so much stronger with Sol's name pencilled in !
StuartM
You'd think that a medical would be a clear sign a player would sign but it doesn't always work that way does it? So I thought it best not to say he would if their was a chance he might not, maybe it could be the case here now with City sniffing around...
pompeyrug
those northern monkeys trying to steal OUR sol in exchange for distin.... great work lol. im still holding a small amount of optimism (hang on that cant be a character trait for me can it...) that we can sign Sol in the next few days. wage cut to 40k a week is quite good for us, city probably only have to offer a bigger wage packet and were screwed though!
pompey pessimist
like most of us, in life Sol lets the money make his decision, so if we really wanted him we could very quickly see off the MCFC threat if it exists. My mate at the Arse says that 2 things go in our favour . 1, Tony Adams & 2, that Harry will pander to his battered ego , hope he's right.
russellm
letsface it with the facilities they have they probably only have to offer the same wage. But maybe he won't want to move house Pompey would be easier travelling. That said i'm feeling very pessimistic about the whole thing. We don't seem to be able to sign anyone worth having so why should he be any different. We're gonna be back to Harrys Bargain Basement with players prone to injury or temperment problems. Same old Pompey but who ever said supporting Pompey was easy it's just something that infects you and just won't let you go whatever happens.
Steve C
LoL, i nearly put battered ring, hey pessimist watch your self or where will it all end
russellm
He'll still sign I'm having faith here, maybe blind faith but I'm having it...
pompeyrug
its midday and sky have just cut to Sol, walking in to Fratton park
russellm
'arry is confident it'll be wrapped up soon! Let's just get it one...
pompeyrug
pompeyrug, whilst responding to nelson on a previous thread i wonder if as i think most of us hope he does join, he is quite a commanding CB so could we be looking at a new captain fairly soon into the season? ......your thoughts...if he does join
russellm
Just saw Sol at Fratton park with Peter Storie. He stopped to sign autographs and have photos taken. :o) Hopefully be playing Thursday night!!
rodders
oooopps, big mistake signing Campbell, I personally think that he has a huge problem with his mental state, he was an excellent defender but his head is not quite right which is no good for a footballer, hope i am wrong, only time will tell!!!!
sidyid
Sol signed, announced by sky sports at 18:30 tonight
russellm
Welcome to the revolution SOL !!!!!!! What a fantastic coup for our great club ! Now let's hope others will follow. I have genuine optimism for this season. So much so,i've very nearly forgiven Harry for his brief mental breakdown !! lol
lincspfcfan
Give him the captaincy.
storagematt
My thoughts russellm, even thought he has now signed I can't see 'arry giving the armband to anyone else but Campbell to be honest, he's a natural leader isn't he. I've always believed that someone in the backline should lead a team as they see the bigger picture. That's what makes JT so good and why he WILL captain England. There can be no better position than a central defender to see the whole game. I know Dejan is current Captain but if another arrival comes, which I think it will he'll probably be out of the team. I love O'Neil but think he'd concede it to Sol. Can't wait to see him marshall our defence
pompeyrug
Campbell will be Captain no question about that. He will do more for Pompey than Kirk did for the Enterprise. Now beam me up Scotty we are going to where no team has been before....
pompeygray
LOL pg, best one yet
russellm
Get real its only Sol Cambell hes hardly gonna set the world alight is he plus hes 30 plus so he aint a good investment. I recon your still looking at realegationespecially with a wierdo like cambell on your books!
sexyyid
So it's true sexyyid theres none so bitter as a spurned fan. Have to say that since he left Spurs he's won a little more than they have. Looks like a good career decision if you ask me.
Steve C
There's a condriction 'sexy yid'. Sod off & worry about your club. First top ten in 10 years & they all get up & make a noise. The club with your heritage should be embarrassed with the last 20 years. Sort yourself out & we will worry about what we do.
storagematt
ive visited a couple of other sites to check and they're bitter about campbell and lashing out every where, what a joke they are, cant see them ever getting that champions league spot if they cant move on. shame really
