Appy Days! Appleton officially PFC manager

As far as the Michael Appleton appointment goes an increasing number of media outlets were reporting that he would be named as our manager today.

Both sky sports and The News 'understood' that he had met with the players and would be unveiled later today - both of these two are claiming to have 'exclusively revealed' that he had become Pompey's no.1 target.

The one that, for me, had most credibility is BBC Sport, and they too 'believed' this to be the case and were also saying that this was going to be the case with a 3--year contract contact signed.

Of course until it was official on The Pompey Site this was not the case but we now know that our manager search has come to an end with his appointment officially confirmed minutes ago.

Welcome to Pompey Appy and best of luck to you, it is a 'risk' but hopefully it has been a well thought out and calculated one that will benefit us in the long-term.

The way I see it, perhaps he would not have been the first choice for a large number, but given his 'reputation' he is someone that will do a decent job for us and is almost certainly an appointment with a long-term plan in mind - many other names mentioned would 'probably' have been nothing more than a stepping stone or short-term option, given the ages of some linked.

Given time, patience and baking, there is every chance that both Appy and PFC can grow together and move forward, right?

So, all that is left to say is 'Michael Appleton's blue and white army.'

Welcome M.A. to Fratton Park. Best of luck and here's hoping you and the club will grow together and at the least beat the stains in December! PUP!
Yep second that Moley2 - Welcome and good luck MA... "built it and they will come"
Cant get excited at all about this...Just cautious, distinctly fat if im honest
Hahahaha...FLAT even!! :-)
"Appleton officially PFC" - still nothing on the Official Site as at 13:40 and no news announcement so a misleading headline; but no doubt it'll turn out to be true. I'm fat and flat Penton :-)
Just been confirmed on BBC news
PFCblue It's been on the official site since about midday.
SUAC I forgot I'm working to a different clock time to you, doh!
Highly rated so lets see him suceed & take Pompey onwards & upwards....PUP

i am more excited about this choice than if it was one of the supposedly bigger names, a young and eager manager? I think the club may have done well here, and really hope so. Good to see that there were lots of applicants too, after our club's reputation was dragged through the mud. Beat to Quarters! 3 points at Watford would be a nice start.
Who is this guy???
He's related to that other good looking manager Ian Dowie
maybe some one could help buy a suit that looks ok on TV...what was he wearing?? a shiney suit ala 1980's spiv banker,,, Come on VOLDERMORT

Not a looker, is he?
i am fairly optimistic about this appointment tbh - in many ways is it much different to appointing OGS that had plenty of us 'pretty excited'....
granted OGS has been managing in norway for almost a year but appy has been involved in coaching, and working his was forward, for the best part of a decade and unlike OGS - and some other candidates - has actually managed in the premier league, albeit for a short caretaker spell. he made the final list of candidates to become west brom manager!
of course OGS is a bigger name and known throughout europe, and the world, but no one can say that appy will do any worse - or better for that matter - so lets see.
like i say tho i am fairly optimistic about this and am hopeful that this appointment can see PFC and appy grow together with a LONG-TERM appointment in mind here, and long-term is something we need to look for...
Calculated risk as every manager is. Though some more than most. How the players react to him is far more important than what we think. In recent years we have taken ex-players/assistant managers and given them a chance. John Gregory, Terry Fenwick, Graham Rix Tony Adams...
from that list of names the chances of him being a success does not bode well - but 5th time lucky eh...
interesting read on BBC about appy...
Who is Portsmouth's new manager Michael Appleton? here.
welcome aboard, hope you have a great start and take us to the top
Plymouth, his suit was better than Avrams!!
