Hodgson says Appleton is ready

Hodgson says Appleton is ready

West Brom manager Roy Hodgson has more or less confirmed that Pompey are indeed interested in Michael Appleton - who has been 'tipped' to become our next boss...

In a glowing report, in his post-match press conference today, he pretty much admitted PFC are interested and thinks he will 'make a big success' when eventually takes on a managers job as he is 'ready for a top job'.

He said: 'Michael is an excellent young coach and we have to accept at West Brom that there are clubs out there who know their business and will target people like Michael because he's ready for a top job.

'I'm sure that when Michael takes a top job, he'll make a big success of it.

'I think they're interested in Michael, which I'm not surprised about at all because he is a very good coach.'

If it is to be Appleton then I do hope that we make this appointment next week, ideally sooner rather than later so that it gives him that little bit longer to work with the players - who are not off on international duty - before we take on Watford.

We are at an ideal time to make this appointment and announcement so if Appleton is the man that CSI want lets go and get him...

I think Hodgson was trying to persuade Appleton to wait for a better offer; hopefully the Appie knows his own mind. I think if this appointment comes off it is a real statement of long term planning by CSI & the club exec. Ideally I'd like to see some back up in the DoF role and Coppel would fit the bill for me but apparently the man wants management again.

I agree, the two would make a dream combination.

Coppell as manager and Apple as coach.... But that won't happen; Apple won't leave WBA to become just a coach here!

i cant see anything wrong, even if coppell doesn't come, appleton with the backroom boys should be ok on a rolling one year contract

On this day in history...30th May

A look back at this day in history, and what was happening with Pompey courtesy of our sister site PompeyRama, 30th May.

No Crawley return for Tubbs

Tubbs doesn't have a future at Pompey, he's on the transfer-list but offloading him could be difficult given his wages. These wouldn't be anywhere within Crawley's reach.

Pitfalls of Sheffield Wednesday loanee returning

As Catlin put it 'the gamble' of aiming sign Sheffield Wednesday loanee Lavery has to be one Pompey fans understand. It isn't as cut and dried as saying 'he's a free agent' sign him!

Lassie coming home...well sort of!

A-box-to-box player, capable of defensive duties, with ability to burst forward with intent to make things happen - Diarra is Pompey's man and wants an England return. I jest of course!
