Nearing the end of the search

Nearing the end of the search

With David Lampitt telling BBC Radio Solent that 'things are going very well and hopefully we are nearing the end of our search,' can we take that as meaning that a managerial appointment is imminent?

Plenty of names have been 'rumoured' although exactly who Pompey are interested in, even if they are interested in Pompey, remains unknown.

Knowing who these 'successful applicants', in as much as those that PFC interview, will not be known: 'the process is going well and we have had a strong field of candidates apply for the job.

'The process of indentifying our number one candidate is ongoing.

'We will continue the process privately and professionally out of respect for the individuals involved. We the board continue to believe that this is the right way to do it.'

One of the names that had bubbled away on the backburner had been Eddie Howe.

A number of people would not be opposed to this at all, and he is the latest to become the 'bookmakers favourite' so could a 'surprise', and it would be a surprise, return to Fratton really be on for the Burnley manager?

The other 'favourites' at the moment are Sean O'Driscoll and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer so the chances are the appointment will be from these three, right?

I know which two of the three I would prefer, so if we could lure one of these two away from their current clubs - I think this gives you a BIG clue as to which two I would like - I would be more than happy...

well at least there would 50+ applicants for the Burnley job if he does come..I still think S O'D has been seriously under estimated..from what i saw of Donny on TV they looked great last few years..BUT..I would take Eddie, knowing if he does well he will be off to a bigger club..

Done Deal - Smith in permanently from Swindon

The interest Pompey retained in Smith, with him 'in our sights' has resulted in him returning to the Blues on a permanent basis after signing for an 'undisclosed fee' from Swindon.

Cushioning the blow

Much, that needed saying, about Webster's exit for Ipswich and the arrival of Clarke in return (and cash) has been said hasn't it? Doyle's been spot on with what he said.

Swindon striker in 'Pompey's sights'

Michel Smith, who was of course on loan last season, could return? He's still in 'Pompey's sights' by all accounts after Swindon informed him he's 'surplus to requirements' now.
