'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Few make a debut at that age!

Having never actually 'retired' Stevie Claridge will be pulling on his boots once more at the ripe old age of 45!

How many footballers, certainly outfield ones, are still playing at such an age, jeez how many can actually say that they will make - or at least could make - a debut at 45-year-old?

I would hazard a guess that very few in the history of English football, maybe even world or European in fact, could claim that at 45 they would make a debut for a club - perhaps some would still be playing for one but surely not a new one...

Well, chances are Stevie will do just that as he will be playing for Gosport now, potentially making his debut on Saturday, having signed for them as a player/coach. And he cannot wait: 'I can't wait to get started. There's a great bunch of players there.

'I've never retired and I still think I can do a decent job.'

Best of luck to both the former Pompey man - despite some words that have not always been complimentary to us over the years, understandably at times, I have always had a soft spot for the guy - and Gosport. I do wonder just how long this partnership will last though, although I am sure all the while it does it will be one that both parties enjoy!

Super Stevie Claridge playing at the age of 45, I am not sure if I should be surprised or not to be honest...

Did you ever see him break in to a sweat when playing? He still has the same shin pads from when he was in the under 12's, probably the same boots!
