What PFC are looking for...

What PFC are looking for...

What Pompey are looking for in a new manager has been 'outlined' by David Lampitt, quoted in The News this morning but coming from comments made at the weekend.

Someone with 'championship experience' and 'experience of English football full stop' are some of the 'credentials' that the new manager needs: 'the Championship is a really tough, tough league - a tough division - and so I think experience at that level and experience of English football is an important aspect of it.'

These comments 'seemed' to rule out, yet rule in, a few candidates although not wishing to leave anything to chance - or see comments come back to bite him I guess - he then opens up the role for pretty much anyone again!

So long as they have 'the right attributes' and 'the right balance' they are what PFC want: 'having said that, getting the right person who the right attributes across a number of different areas is key and that inevitably will involve a balance.

'We want to find the right balance across all of those areas that we think are important for the club.'

It does, I think, make it less likely that an overseas manager will come in though. I would not say that it rules out a foreigner but 'probably' rules out a foreigner that does not know the English game that well...

Lampitt is not really giving much away is he, not that you would expect him to anyway, although having said that I think that his opening sentence tells us pretty much all we need to know.

Experience of this level, with some degree of success, is the main order of the day so with WOTS on Sunday telling Vital Pompey Towers that Dave Jones and Billy Davies had been 'approached about the position' I would think it is most likely to be one of these two, with it being the former as opposed to the latter...

We may well even know who our next manager is going to be by the time we take on Ipswich tomorrow night, if not then I would think that there is a pretty good chance that they will be installed by the time we face Doncaster at Fratton this weekend.

Having them unveiled for the first time as a home game might not be the worst thing to do either as this could draw in more of a crowd for a game that perhaps we probably would not have otherwise.

so he basically made an off the cuff remark that contains no real information on who we're looking at and 'The News' make it into an article? lol sounds about right

Done Deal - Smith in permanently from Swindon

The interest Pompey retained in Smith, with him 'in our sights' has resulted in him returning to the Blues on a permanent basis after signing for an 'undisclosed fee' from Swindon.

Cushioning the blow

Much, that needed saying, about Webster's exit for Ipswich and the arrival of Clarke in return (and cash) has been said hasn't it? Doyle's been spot on with what he said.

Swindon striker in 'Pompey's sights'

Michel Smith, who was of course on loan last season, could return? He's still in 'Pompey's sights' by all accounts after Swindon informed him he's 'surplus to requirements' now.
